Sleep Deprived - Almost Died

The best "trick" is to change drivers or go to sleep.

After a sleep deprived camping trip in Darwin Australia, got mildly-drunk on the post-trip night out. Got back to the hostel 2am ish with girlfriend of the time, crashed out immediately on the bed once getting back to the hostel...

Next thing I know, I am waking up stood still and upright, in some quiet street I don't recognise, wearing nothing but my boxershorts - like a bad dream with no idea how I got there. After concluding that I hadn't been anally violated, I wandered around looking for some familiar landmark. Eventually saw someone on the street looking at me distrustfully who was able to give my directions back to the hostel.

My ex was asleep on the bed, so I woke her up asking what the fuck happened. She told me I fell asleep on the bed, she went to the bathroom and when she got back I got up, and zombie-like walked out of the patio door through the hostel garden. "I called you" - she says - "but you kept going". Said she didn't go after me because she was not dressed BLAH BLAH BLAH. Moron. Worked out I'd been gone for about an hour. Other than that, never done any sleep walking before or since, so you don't have to have form for sleep-related-weirdness.

That happened to me in 09 a couple times on 95 and my senior year in HS I dozed off and went into a ditch, it wasn't steep though and I was going like 40ish so it just dislocated my bumper a bit.

I didn't read anything but the OP because I don't have time but:

TLDR version, lack of sleep, almost died, now back on the grind, working harder than ever!! Live life to the fullest coz you might die tomorrow.

How the fuck do you continue to emphasize that you almost died? I think many people in your place right now would be emphasizing that you almost killed your mother and whomever else you may have hit.

I've taken very long roadtrips. If you're tired, don't drive. It's worse than being buzzed. Just pull over and nap. It's not hard and no one blames you. I had a cop wake me up once and he asked what I was doing. I told him sleeping. He thanked me and left.

WTF? Why wasn't he wearing a seatbelt? I'd imagine he was very broken up by that accident :(

Re: microsleep. Yep, I've done that. Dozed off and woken up zooming towards a wall. Luckily I swerved in time.

Although both my parents (and me) were nearly killed when I was a kid cos my dad fell asleep at the wheel. Really, really easily done. Definitely pull over and take a nap.

I've even had quick dreams during micro-sleep. I think time goes by slower when you're dreaming than in real life. Thankfully I had some loud-ass subs that I cranked up which let me remain alert enough to make it to the next rest stop.

That happen to me once at night, I was falling alseep and I see two red lights as I am driving fast, the red lights keep getting closer and I am wondering what it is , its a BIG wheeler that i was about to hit head on and I blasted my brakes at the right time..

Glad your mom is okay. Also as an atheist with religious parents I can appreciate the balance to stay with your convictions and try to keep harmony and good relationship with family.

As for you I wish you sweet dreams while driving solo on a lonely road till you dnf beyond all recognition you p.o.s motherfucker.

Humanist, just not very good at it.

Crazy, I think almost falling asleep behind the wheel has happen to everyone, your case is a little more severe then mine lol, when I start to nod off I put the AC on open all the windows, and turn up the tunes.

For some reason this happens to me quite often on the way home from work. I don't know if it's just the sun beating down or the movement from watching the lines on the road. I constantly nod off too. I can't even drive long distance road trips without someone else there, because I end up needing to switch often. I've never crashed or anything, but the feeling of dozing off when driving just sucks!
