BBC NEWS | Europe | Russian forces battle Georgians

Russia says 12 of its soldiers are dead, and separatists estimate that 1,400 civilians have died.

Seems like a revenge for Kosovo. Russians are probably going to get away with it because NATO just isn't capable to do anything besides nasty talking. It can't even gather additional 50k troops to save its failing mission in Afghanistan.

According to BBC, CNN and other sources, there's a real war going on there and Russians have already starting air raids on targets outside of the South Ossetia.

And by the way, Chinese got pretty much owned. Instead of Olympic games day 1, conflict between Russia and Georgia is getting heavy media coverage.

U.S media really are pieces of shit. I have been flipping between all the news channels and I have heard very lilttle about this. Georgia (while a small player on the GEO political front) is a US allie.

Russia has no right to invades Georgia nor do they have the right to be in South Ossetia. Russia needs to butt out this is an internal conflict between Georgia and the seperatist.

At least Mccain condemed Russia. O'bama just stated that he urged the fighting to stop.

Imho, tomorrow will be the most crucial day. We will see whether they stop fighting and declare a ceasefire or whether Russians are going to get serious and start a full-scale attack.

I'm sorry, but Russia has a lot more reasons to be in Ossetia (90% population = russian citizens ) then US ever had invading Iraq or treating Iran and Serbia.

Well, it is funny
But...
Janaic you probably will be surprised that English is not exactly the only language in the word, so that moron is not obligated knowing it.

So spell United States of America in Georgian without googling it...
We will see if you are as stupid as he is

Just on a sidenote, I have done some additonal research and it seems that Russians are the good guys here. In fact, there's some huge anti-russian propaganda going on.

South Ossetia citizens have already voted two times to join the North Ossetia (in Russia) in referendums and both referendums were successful. Moreover, SO has been an autonomy for years now without any Georgia's influence.

And on more thing - Russia have had peacekeeper troops there for a long time by a UN resolution. The more I am readng about it, the more it seems like it was Georgia that attacked...

This is getting really confusing. Tomorrow will be very interesting day, I'm curious how will the conflict continue...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OMG i almost imploded my lungs laughing over that. Holy shit, how can someone be so fucking stupid? Not to mention horrible spelling/grammar.

I think this retarded guy misplaced state Georgia with nation Georgia LOL... he should pay more attention in school.

Ossetia IS part of Georgia. They are separatist. A national government has the right to maintain its borders and sovernity. Look what happened in the American Civil War.

Ummm...i'm pretty sure they were referring to the state of Georgia in the US. If this person was in fact living in the country of Georgia then i retract my previous comment.

Well, there is no way to say was that "Jessica" referring to country or state from the post she made. But I would not be surprised if she is in state of Georgia
If that is the case i retract mine....:)

Hm, thanks for the lesson. I did not know that there was more than one language, I thought English was the only language. Man, I guess you do learn something new every day.

1) National governments do not have the right to maintain "sovereignty" against their own people.

2) In the specific case of the US Civil War they explicitly didn't have that right -- Virginia for example only accepted membership in the union in the first place on the condition that they could later withdraw. No sensible human being has ever argued that the CSA secession was illegal qua some anti-secession legislation or part of the Constitution.

3) The Civil War was not fought to maintain the union, it was fought to bitch-slap southerners back into their properly servile state. Ironically this is often viewed as "freeing the slaves" when by the Reconstruction far more people were under a methaphorical yoke than ever lived under a real one in the south.

You are wrong. the Civil War happend because the South seceded from the United States. The resaon of the sucession included the slavery thing but it was not the only reason.

So if California decided to dump the US and become it's own country..the government would allow it? NO! it wouldn't. If that meant sending troops into the state to take care of business it would. Even though I am not sure why we would want to maintain San Francisco and other Cali cites....but whatever.
