Quitting My Job....Tomorrow!

I should have said I had plans but I obliged and ended up sitting in a room arguing trivial shit until 7PM. I mean who the fuck schedules a 4:30 meeting on a Friday afternoon?

I worked for one of the big Wall St investment banks for a short while, and it wasn't uncommon to have 8:00 PM Friday meeting requests sent out on Outlook. People (especially "managers") didn't think twice about it. It was quite scary.

I don't miss that world one bit.

makes me wish i would get fired. Im like the office space guy. Space out for a while at work... and so on haha :food-smiley-010:

Congrats!!! It is always great to be free and doing something you love and enjoy. Making tons of money is also a great TREAT...

The only thing that sucks and you should be prepared for is being a loner. The one thing that drives me nuts is being in my office alone almost everyday, with no one to shoot the shit with. Trust me, its not the same online or through chat.

When I worked in corporate I had a lot of fun with the people I worked with, bullshitting and cutting up, and being insubordinate to my boss (because I knew I could do his job better than he could.)

Anyway, just giving you the heads up on that, overall it's worth it.

well said - i pretty much agree.

although keep in mind it's easy to forget all the beaurocratic bullshit...

Nothing beats freedom - there is a price but as you mentioned it's definitely worth it

Thanks guys for your comments and well wishes. I've been trying to schedule something with my manager but she's been in meetings all morning. Will get to it today though. And NO I'm not pussin out :)

Ya I've thought about the loner situation once I quit and definitely have taken that into account. I think being so miserable here outweighs that however, and working the hours I want will definitely help. I will miss some of the people here, but that's only a small handful while the others I couldn't give two shits about.

Bust into the meeting, hop up on the table, rip your shirt open and beat your chest as you declare your freedom from corporate slavery.

Anyway...

Look for "coworking" spaces. There are a couple in my town, mainly in the downtown area. Typically they want some small pittance of a monthly membership fee, and you can get out of your hole... er, house... and work around other people for however long you want.

Coffee shops are ok, but unless you're meeting people you know expect to be just as lonely except surrounded by people.

I wasn't going to reply to this thread until I read your post. You are absolutely right about the loner aspect. You do miss the social aspect of interacting with people and you need to be prepared to let that go. No more after work drinks, no more banter around the office. However the pros far outwiegh the cons of working from home.

Incidently I tried to leave work last april with just over $8k in the bank I thought I had a shot. However I soon realised 8K is no where near enough money to leave work to persue this. You need at least a years living expenses and then some capital to spend on the running of your business. So with this in mind I went back to work and have been saving for nearly 6 months now and building some income with AM so that in 6 months when the time comes I will be fully prepared to take this up full time.

I dropped out of college 5 months ago.. it's definitely worth it man, make sure you network a LOT to keep yourself from going crazy as well as find people close near you who also do AM. Having people to always talk to online, go grab lunch/dinner/coffee with, or go hangout with (if they also do AM chances are they have some time to get off the computer too) other AMs. I have some good friends online, here on WF, and am always meeting people who are in similar situations.. it's awesome and gives you stuff to do outside of day-to-day AM. Plus you have more freedom to travel to go hang out with whoever you want or go wherever you please.. and write it off as a business expense all along.
