Ok, I'm about to take the plunge. I've been an IT gearhead for the past 10 years with one of the biggest banks in the world, and I'm about to say seeeee-ya to that fuckin place. I am so done with being a corporate whore. Last Friday (two days ago) I am packing up and getting ready to leave the office at 4:30PM when my manager comes up and says "can we have a quick meeting?". I should have said I had plans but I obliged and ended up sitting in a room arguing trivial shit until 7PM. I mean who the fuck schedules a 4:30 meeting on a Friday afternoon? Anyways, where I work that shit happens all the time and I'm soooo sick of it. I could list a bunch of other shit that pisses me off about that place but I'd rather put that all behind me and look forward to what's ahead.

Am I going to look for another job? No. I am ready to take my IM to another level.

A part of me is a little skeptical though, as the economy is shit (and looking for a job now would suck) and I have a wife and two kids to feed. I have however made enough bank to live very handsomely for well over a year if things went south and I had absolutely no earnings during that entire period (which I am confident won't happen). My wife also has a great career going which also helps minimize the risk. I've made more in a day with IM than I did in a month at my shitty job. I've been doing IM for a little over a year now and feel pretty confident in my abilities to make it on my own. I've learned many techniques and how to scale. I am also so addicted to this shit, I am constantly reading and have taken a genuine interest in what I do (for a change). I am so ready to do this full time.

Anyways just wondering if any of you had similar experiences where you ditched your safety net career to do this full time? Do tell.

I haven't ever had a secure career (at least for anyone else). I've been in the work world for 8 years now and never filled out a resume.

Anyway, sounds like you have thought it through. I wish you the best of luck!

If your already making am money fuck yea get the hell out of there, now all the time wasted at work will be time spent on AM

your 20 hours in AM can now be 60 hours, also why not fuck up a bit. Now with dumb dumb aka Obama in office i would suggest trying to get fired so you can collect unemployment, he promotes stuff like that so why not, follow the NEW American dream

Congrats man!

I'm actually doing the same thing right now. The only difference is the company I work for has to lay off a bunch of people so I volunteered. I was going to wait another month or two but it's ok. The great news is that they're giving me a severance package that includes 3 months of pay plus health benefits. I've been making more money in one day than I do in a whole week at the job so I'm not to worried.

Anyways, congratulations again and here's to making more money!

Thanks to all above for your words of encouragement.

Webwonder: My company did a batch of layoffs last month, but since I am considered a top performer there was no chance of me being on that list. That is one thing I will discuss tomorrow, if there are more layoffs coming, I'll be the first to volunteer for that list. That would be the dream scenario, since the last batch received 1 month per year of service. 10 months worth of pay would be the shit since I am planning on quitting anyways.

Good on you for hooking that shit up, let's hope I can get the same!

Congrats :D
You won't look back.

I did it 3 years ago. Never had a career like you but had many jobs.
Also didn't have a family to provide for, but I wasn't earning much at the time however it was well worth quitting. Once you don't have to worry about going out to work you can dedicate so much more time and energy to online shit.

Establish a work routine, stay very organized with which tasks you are working on, when. Stay on top of daily goals.

I was laid off 3 months ago and I'm already making way more money than I did at work. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a 8-5 job.

It will be best feeling in the world when you quit. I quit my corporate job 10 months ago and now I make more in cash back on the plum card than i did at my old job.

This is the best thing you could ever do for yourself.

As long as you are diversified with multiple offers and your revenue does not come from shady biz-opp/Acai products promoted via flogs you should be fine.
