Got an e-mail from a friend about something trippy called the "Double Slit Experiment".

"Ok check it out, the results appear on a screen. The particles are basically part of a beam of light being shot through 2 slits. When they do not have tools of observation actually looking at the individual particles, the particles act like waves and occupy multiple spaces at once. Basically
the matter acts as though it is in all of it's potential positions (which in itself is beyond incredible). When the particles are viewed while moving, they act like you would expect them to, with a finite location and reaction. They go from point: A to point: B. If they are not viewed, they go from point: A to point: every other letter in the alphabet times a zillion. It is beyond anyone's understanding at this point in time."

Maybe when you're looking, your eyes emit some waves or some shit that affect the particles? I have no idea about physics.

Sometimes when I can't sleep I watch YouTube videos on physics and advanced math.

Usually hurts my brain, bruises my ego, and I go to bed.

Can all be explained very simply by reading about Quantum Superposition. Or reading about the Quantum Cat. (Schrodinger's Cat as mentioned by Unsigned Hype.)

I don't think that's what he's referring to though. To be honest, there's some shit in this world that will never be understood...and people keep coming up with more funky ass shit like every single day.

thats from the movie What the bleep do we know?

Watch the whole thing. It's a good program if you remove that stupid emotional fat chick.

Insane Clown Possie were right all along. Pure Mother Fucking Magic.

I thought this was common knowledge stuff?

But yeah, fascinating stuff - physics rock.

Oh yeah, very common.

Even though I read a Brief History of Time while grounded as a preteen I don't think this stuff qualifies as "common knowledge".

Common knowledge includes things like: The Clippers will always suck, liberals are generally broke or out of touch with reality, and Lycra takes no prisoners.

Not seen it, but a lot of scientists seem to think that film is basically bullshit.

I was thinking something along this or maybe it's the thoughts of the observers somehow affecting what's going to happen on a subliminal level. This goes along with the idea that thoughts are things and we can subconciously manipulate the enviornment around us.

But this theory is pretty flawed because the particles are also behaving differently if an observing scientist is replaced with a measuring machine.

"As far as the machinery observing, and not directly a human mind, I think you have to think "4th dimensionally" for this. If time is relative, than the fact that you will at some point observe it while it's moving affects it. This is demonstrated by the Erasure experiment, where they observe the particles while moving, but erase the data immediately before the particles complete their journey. When the data was erased, the particles reacted as if they were never viewed to begin with. This means that the data could never have been viewed by a conscious mind. This indicates some ridiculously creepy shit about the concept of time."
