is anyone receiving their orders? This thread seems to have died out a lot. I want to buy proxyfinder but wanted to make sure first

Yo, it's manual delivery and setup of license, so it tends to be someone buys it during the night, don't see anything for a few hours, so they post on the thread, then I deliver it. So order away :)

I'm getting miserable results.. I tried to research the whole tcp/ip patch deal but as far as I can tell it says that windows server standard does not require it.. I even tried applying a patch that I found and it said the same.. that it's not necessary for my OS.. any ideas? This is my server:

Windows Server Standard Service Pack 2
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU
X3450 @ 2.67GHz
8.00 GB DDR3 Ram
64-bit Operating System
100mb connection up/down

This is a sample of results when I run the program

Well scrapebox is harvesting precisely ZERO public proxies after anon checking them.

Has this tool been updated yet?

Less active proxies are finding their way into regular lists. Transparent proxies are good for most purposes anyway.

Attached are 622 anon and 1,511 trans checked in the last hour.

Cheers dude, +rep coming

I'm new to scrapebox, but not proxies. Surely leaving your IP exposed will get my ip/comments blacklisted pretty quick if they are using akismet etc? negating the purpose of a proxy surely?

ip banning isnt so much a problem as my ISP gives me a new one pretty often, but it's hassle i'd like to avoid?

The answer to that is very software based. A quick grep of a WP install shows this:

[root@heavyload blog]# grep -R FORWARDED *
wp-content/plugins/w3-total-cache/inc/define.php: $host = (isset($_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST']) ? $_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST'] : $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']);
wp-includes/class-simplepie.php: $file =& new $this->file_class($favicon, $this->timeout / 10, 5, array('X-FORWARDED-FOR' => $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']), $this->useragent, $this->force_fsockopen);
wp-includes/class-simplepie.php: $file =& new $this->file_class($img['attribs']['src']['data'], $this->timeout, 5, array('X-FORWARDED-FOR' => $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']), $this->useragent, $this->force_fsockopen);

A further check of the akismet.php plugin code shows this:

$comment['user_ip'] = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];
$comment['user_agent'] = $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'];
$comment['referrer'] = $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'];

So WP uses something about forwarding for the w3 total cache plugin, some rss code mentions it, and nowhere else. Meaning WP appears to have nothing by default to tell the difference between an anon and transparent proxy.

interestings

is that a wp3 install?

The latest 3.0.5 with matching akismet.

The problem with X-FORWARDED-FOR which is what proxies are meant to use is that software cannot rely on it for anything other than to detect a proxy. Using the header as a source of the real IP is idiotic since it's incredibly easy to forge.

Here is how I look at it. If you were spamming a large target with millions of messages (ie, facebook) then they would have a reason to track you down and sue you, so using something like transparent proxies would be a bad idea. However, when you are spamming millions of targets (ie, wordpress) all of which who are receiving 10-100 spam comments a day from various different sources, the chances of you causing any issues worth anyones time to track down is pretty much non-existent. Even if you somehow manage to piss off one persistent mofo, the worst that is likely to happen is that you'll be forced to change ISP, or have to tell your ISP you had a virus which turned your box into a proxy.

I wouldn't recommend this software to anyone - this guy does not answer emails, and the loaded proxy sources just ran out after a couple of days I was consistently getting a "0" return for proxies found.

Don't waste your money or your time.

I was thinking about getting this but apparently it doesn't work, is this really the case? I have trouble believing a pretty well known WF member to just up and abandon people who bought this stuff.

mattseh, does your software still work and are you still supporting it?

It's also completely blocking all my http traffic while it runs. Both from a Windows Virtual Machine and from the Mac command line.
