Take turns into/out of a driveway at a hard angle and you can go up any incline. My front lip has about 3.5 inches of clearance so I know the feel. Just be careful when parking cause you'll run the bumper right up onto the sidewalk or parking block.
The big issue here is that my driveway is narrow. To make matters worse, the sides are brick and about 3 feet higher. It is very difficult to attempt any angle that wouldn't scrap my car without the back of my car hitting brick. When I do get the car in, I have about half a foot of space on the passenger side and 1.5 feet on the driver side. In other words...I need to stay skinny to be able to step out of my vehicle.
What's your take on financing vs leasing vs cash purchase? (Assuming you have the cash laying around)
This is now my third car purchase, and in all three instances I have paid the full amount in cash. I know that there will be folks here recommending on financing the car since interest rates are relativity low, and you are better off putting all the money into an investment account and earn interest. I do agree with that, but my goal is reducing the amount of recurring payments I must have. I would rather have the ease of mind knowing that if my business goes to shit in one year, I do not have to worry about major recurring payments.
I could have been an ass and placed a deposit of $100k on an Aventador and financed $300k over three years. Which would come out to $8.3k per month, which would work financially for me right now but once again, if shit hits the fan in one year for me, I do not want to worry about a $8.3k monthly payment.
How much did that cost you? Here in Denmark it's like $200.000 for the beast.
I purchased it preowned ~ came out to around $100,000. Fortunately it has taken quite a bit depreciation hit already so if I were to sell it in two years or less, I shouldn't take more than a 15% hit at most.
I am sure someone will point out that I purchased the V8 version versus the V10. As much as having the larger engine would feel and sound great, it isn't necessarily worth it for me. My budget for a new car was at the $100k mark. Taxes are coming next month so I have to prepare myself for any unwelcoming surprises. I could have easily traded in my bimmer and took a highly option V10, but then I would only have a single vehicle. I would rather have the smaller engine and have a great everyday car. I do live in New York, the only thing the v10 would do for me is receive better criticism when people ask about me car. With a V8, the car is still very drive-able on a daily basis.
In the past I have driven a V12 Lambo and the ride quality <35mph was horrible. For me, it made most sense for me to go with a V8 to enjoy my travels.
Why are you letting your girlfriend fuck up the paint?
I care more about my girlfriend than about my car, I wouldn't dare tell her to step away. Her happiness is worth much more to me than anything else.
I don't get the whole backing up thing. Most people I see backing up take 2-3 times longer than just pulling in and for what? In any case, the angle is your friend for your scrapping issue. The more of an angle you can get the better. Nice ride though!
It comes down to more control of the surroundings. If you are backing out of a spot, you have to deal with a ridiculous blind spot of cars driving by. In my case, I have a side walk in addition that I cannot see from the sides due to the low ride and the decline my driveway has. The visibility in most sport cars are horrible to begin with, again, with the Audi if I look out the back if I want to pull out of my driveway, then all I see is the sky.
When I back up into a spot or my driveway, everything is stationary. I don't have to worry about a car driving behind my back, and do not have to worry about a person walking behind my car. In addition, I can use my side mirrors to pull in with no problems. Going back to the Audi, I have very little space between my car and the walls on my driveway, the Audi does not have a traditional shape since the back and the front of the car widen. To make matters worse, I cannot see any part of my hood, so if I come in head first into my driveway, I will have a difficult time figuring out how much space I still have on my sides. While if I use my side mirrors, I can see the way my car bends perfectly.
