Not everyone on that bus would have kicked her ass, but there would have been someone on the bus more than willing to.
And here's a protip: When houses cost less than $50 in an area(which is entirely doable in Detroit), it's not because of the school district. It's because you're probably going to get your ass beaten and robbed.
Here's some fun facts about Detroit for you:
1) They can't bulldoze any houses because the lots are worth less than the cost of bulldozing the abandoned houses.
2) They lasted decades without any national gangs. Because the local gangs would kill them and everyone they came with when they showed up.
3) Our last mayor is still in Prison.
4) There are areas that get over 900 reported crimes per year within just a couple blocks. And that's reported. Most aren't.
5) Detroit essentially never leaves the "most dangerous city" in America list. But sometimes it will be overtaken by Flint or Saginaw.
6) There are no grocery stores within city limits. They got robbed too frequently, so they left the area.
7) 47% of Detroiters are functionally fucking illiterate(source)
8) The graduation rate in Detroit is <70%.
9) It's not going to get better and everyone knows it.
10) It took a PR campaign and over a decade to end the Devil's Night(before Halloween) practice of burning down buildings in Detroit.

This makes me think of the lightrail I used to take downtown to campus. One major difference: this woman would have been forcefully shoved off at the next stop, despite having a kid in her lap.
A tip for everyone when you do take public transport (afterall, it is sometimes way more convenient than driving, especially in large cities): always carry a knife, or at least some pepper spray, and just stare out the window when the unavoidable lunatic starts spraying their ignorant ideas everywhere. If no one had argued with this lady she would have gone into a state of silent & drunken shame.

I live in CO, US, so both are legal (3.5 inch limit on blades when concealed though). Sorry, should have mentioned my location.
Don't know the laws for carrying self-defense weapons in the UK. The annoying accent of people there could be used a weapon all on its own, though, making it completely possible to talk yourself out of any situation (sorry, couldn't resist after watching the OP vid).
