Old guy on 4chan gives you some spot on advice

1) people blow themselves and other people up over religion. should i pretend their religious belief is not stupid because it makes them feel better/ because it hurts their feelings?

2) i guess...but is that really in the top 8? i understand this guy is just posting on 4chan.

7) agreed.

8) retardedly wrong. high suicide rate = shit culture. great job! talk about taking a negative stance on one of the most unique and fascinating cultures this world has ever seen.

i hope when i'm 50 i can create a better list of 8 things.

1) doesn't mean you have to proselytize on the internet to people who do not give a shit. evangelical atheism = evangelical baptist.

8) They have suicide clubs over there, and the suicide rate is the highest in the world. He didn't say it was shitty, he said it was "oppressive and stifling". He's spot on about weeaboos though (obsessive anime fans)

yawn. i get so tired of weak little boys trying to learn how to be "alpha" and shit these days. just lift some fucking weights to get some testosterone into your female bodies and you won't have to listen to old men for "man advice", faggots.

1) The problem is, if you pretend it's normal along with them you're not really solving the problem. I do see how being overly persistent about it can be annoying. But it's also pretty fun! What's wrong with a good debate? If somebody is clearly getting edgy, have some commonsense and shift the conversation if that's the best move (obviously that doesn't always happen, especially on the Internet). Pretending everyone should treat every religion/value-system equally - and pretend we all should just get along - suggests some value-systems have no benefits over others (I know this off-topic from what you said).

It's also a dangerous idea when you consider how easy it might be to create a bomb that segments the believers from the infidels in 100 years. Right now you have wishy-washy moderates suggesting all faiths/cultures have something to offer which makes them think they are equally well. But can you really tell me that women are treated equally well in the Middle East as they are in Canada? These nice accepting people that don't think religion should be a point of debate may honestly believe that and, for that, they're doorknobs. They need to be told they're doorknobs so they become undoorknobbed!

8) I lived in Tokyo for awhile. It's obviously high (twice US), and the culture clearly contributes to that...huge pressure from work, tiny apartments, the easy potential to isolate yourself from all humanity if that's what you're after. Still if that's what you came away with after going to Japan, you fail at life 100%...and if that's what you're putting in the list of your top 8 pieces of wisdom...you fail at life 1000%.

...

I either agreed with what he said or what he said pissed me off.

I am amazed at how much lower suicide rates for women are absolutely everywhere...

Yup, I also wondered what's that all about.

Probably due to implied heightened responsibility males tend to have in families/companies though.

He was specifically mentioning it due to the glorification and high percentage of "weeaboos" and "otakus" on 4chan. People who over-glorify Anime and Japanese culture (i.e people who say "Japan is superior in every way" but are just 18 year old white boys from Texas).

Also a wow:

"While being investigated for an expenses scandal, Cabinet minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka took his life in 2007. The governor of Tokyo, Shintaro Ishihara, described him as a "true samurai" for preserving his honour."

Wtf?

I took what he was saying as, "I don't care what you believe (or don't believe) so long as you don't force your opinion on me." And I agree with that 100%. I honestly don't want to hear about it unless I specifically ask. Some atheist seem to think it's ok to bash religion at every opportunity, which is annoying. I don't pray to the east 3 times a day, but I also don't criticize muslims for doing it. Likewise, I've never called an atheist stupid for their beliefs (or lack thereof), so why must I hear about how retarded it is to have religion every chance they get, especially on the internet. George Carlin said it best, religion is fine, as long as you keep it to yourself. And I feel exactly the same way, unless of course I'm listening to George Carlin- then bash away my friend, because you were funny as fuck.

Agreed with every part of this. (And I'm an atheist.)

My only concern as an atheist about not telling others the fault of their religions (and of course I agree that you shouldn't be pushy about it if ever you do so) is the main theme of Bill Maher's Religulous: That Armaggedon may very well be a self-fulfilling prophecy in a few of the biggest religions.

So if certain behaviors and beliefs by the religious aren't stopped, they will literally Kill us All...

And that is the Ultimate form of not keeping your religion to yourself.

Dude is Sexist, Selfish, a bit of an immature and is rubbing his opinions on others. It's as annoying to see his points as his atheists can be.
