lercho: there is nothing Jon can do to convince you, so you either believe him or not and stop posting shit like that. He didn't sell the forum, he got an offer for $16m, end of story and move on with your life.

No point in sitting here chatting bullshit over something that doesn't really matter one way or the other for us users

obviously it matters to some of us! There is no real need for proof, just a less unbelievable account of this miraculously high bid on this forum.

If sitemaker posted that he just sold his site for $1million for instance we would all flame him silly.

Just because jon owns the forum doesn't mean he shouldn't be subjected to the same bullshit radar that all the other members are.

And he flamed one of his members with information that he probably should have kept to himself since it was done off the damn forum. And I am 95% sure engaged is doing more volume with arbitrage then anyone else on this board.

First off, to Jon: That's a helluva lot of money for most ppl here so I can understand how someone (including myself) would have taken the money and ran. :) But as you said, when you have made it to a certain point in life financially, other things become more important and I respect that. I also am very glad that you declined, because I don't think this place would have been the same. I've been active online since the BBS days, in the early IRC community in the early 90's, in early pre-1996 forum days, on countless different forums up until now. But this is by far the most awesome online community/forum I have ever been part of.

Jon:
Stop living in a fucking illusion. Or actually, maybe I'll forgive you by saying you probably have some mental disorder that you cannot distinguish between your actual dreams and what's happening in real life.
Dude.. What is your problem?

Come on man. Stop with your shit already
(And who the FUCK WOULD buy a forum where every 3rd post is about 7search activation, ebooks, and porn?)

What? Lmao... what forum have you been reading? Certainly not WF. Oh wait... I see, you got WF confused with WarriorForum.

illusion - I think you miss the point. The statement of a 16m offer goes to the credibility of the owner of this site. That number is so over the top that without anything to back it up makes it very hard to believe. That is important because Jon says he wants to be a resource for the aff community. If the owner lacks credibility then the site lacks credibility.
For everyone that says something like, well there are people out there paying all kinds of crazy money for shit so this is possible. Do you understand the kind of money it would take to be able to offer 16m and not make a dent in your business or personal life? Very few businesses would be able to do this. If the company that made this supposed offer was a public company the share holders would be up in arms for this persons ouster for financial miss management!
To recoup any of there investment they would have to monitize the site within days or weeks just to stay in business. I don't know why you would try and sell to AFF people online in a traditional sense because we don't buy the same way as most people online, this is probably the toughest demographic to sell too so again the offer just does not make any sense.
if a business offered 16m, usually they would be willing to go up a bit and having sold more than 1 business I have to say negotiation does not happen this way!

Reminds me of the deal eBay made for Skype. $2 billion for a company that barely grossed $200K the year that they purchased it. Unfortunately, Meg Whitman is still running the show over there. Look where eBay's stock price is compared to Q4 2004. 2005 was the year of stupidity for them and people still back Whitman.

Oh wait, that was OT. My bad. I'm still pissed (as a former stock holder) about that whole fiasco.

Meh, you guys can argue a lost cause if you want. End of story is that Jon doesn't care whether you believe him or not, he was merely telling you about something that happened.

Skype though has potential, sure it was way over priced but the technology was worth quite a bit as well - you can't compare a technology purchase to a purchase of user generated content!

If I was 22 years old, had a degree from Michigan and made a good bit of coin from arbitrage - wanted to get into VC and had the chance to get an education at google for a couple years at $60k (plus my arbitrage money) I would say that was a good business decision. VC firms don't hire people without a few "real" jobs and the best learning experience is on the job training, and if you are from northern california what is the big deal in moving home? now if I was 33 and doing it that would be a different story

err, try again!

i think that sums up my reasoning. also, i've never said anything about me working for a hedge fund, running one, etc, unlike some other members and I think even your brother jon. yes, i was excited about possibly working on the google adwords team.... hmmm... good employer for a couple years, learn more about the inside, let arbitrage run itself still... sorry for updating you on the several interviews I had.... jeez what a fool I am. Oh man, moving to Nor Cal... how dumb.... have you ever heard of anyone moving near the industry they want to get in (VC)??

I'll offer $500 to the first person who produces the name of the potential buyer, even you Jon...

but i mean... come on... $16mm for a forum with 3k members?? $5300/member?

i stay around here becuase a lot of the people are cool... i help a lot of them via PMs and talk to a lot of people through AIM and have made some good friends... yes, i used to look up to you... but with insane posts like these, i'm not sure what you're thinking.

illusion - if Jon did not care about the response or if he is believed - no matter what he says he would not have attacked the way he did. He also would not have posted that there was an offer in the first place.

The only people that can make money from this group of people are AFFILIATE COMPANIES, commision junction wouldn't pay for it and as far as I know they are they only people who could even think about dropping 16m for anything. No way your gonna monetize a bunch of fucking webmasters with advertizements.

If jon doesn't want people to not believe him he needs to stop putting shit out there like "150k for advertising on a low traffic webmaster blog" 16m for a small webmaster forum. Arbitrage 2.0 .. WTF WTF WTF

Did you make a forum that actually does some good? No. Do you have a blog where you actually give out advice that other people don't touch? No. Do you post your earnings and try and answer as many real questions about it? No. Do you not accept any money for consulting to people you've never met? No. Do you hold lightning rounds answering every question that comes your way as quickly and detailed as possible? No. Did you volunteer yourself to stand up in front of a live crowd at ASW and instead of doing some prewritten presentation ask instead to just do live Q&A from the audience, unscripted? No. Do you guys actually do anything aside for sitting around, bitching, and trying to tell people I'm lying when I've never done so on here or on SPF?

1) did i make a forum.... obviously not...
2) do i have a blog... nope, not my thing
3) do i post earnings... nope, no point... do i have EFT's bigger than a lot of the check images posted on the internet... maybe, maybe not... does it matter?
4) lightning rounds... want me to host one???
5) volunteer for ASW... if you want me to answer q's live... not a problem
6) do anything else... yes, i answer almost every PM on here, have hired people off here, consult via AIM for free... what an ass i am... i should have only allowed consulting via the forum to make sure everyone knows i am helping

Google bought Youtube for 1,65 Billion USD, they won't make that back in the first five years either.

Sam, how do you compare a technology product that has a huge upside in potential to a forum, that is driven by a small segment of the population?

This Forum has potential as well, I realize it does not have as much potential as youtube but it sure does have potential.

so sam, in your infinite wisdom, how would you monitize a site like this other than selling ad space? and what would be the point of that, there will be very few sales directly from WF because aff people don't buy that way!

I just love how you like to bash people.
actually I usually try and provide relevant responses but I'm more in the mood to tell you to fuck off right now.

Youtube is a webservice with a huge reach already and a huge huge upside. wickedfire is a hard to monetize niche forum with a small number of users. thats why your comparison is fucktarded.
