I think you will find that Japan has become increasingly regionalized in its trade relations, not relying as much on the west. And I think you will also find that Japan is one of very few advanced nations that can actually survive complete isolation. They still grow rice.

Today, international trade and relations is more powerful than bombs. Need I remind you that the European Union is the greatest (as in largest, don't be smart) economy, and that apart from your screw-ups were not really involved in anything messy elsewhere?
