that's why I dig Portland, or Oregon in general. I've been to the Canary Islands, they suck. I'll stick to my statement that Barcelona is cheap, you just have to hang like a local, not a tourist, and compared to Chicago, it's the same price wise at worst.

I love California. I don't know if I could ever permanently move away. However, the fact that you can live like a king in Argentina for like a couple grand a month is tempting, I suppose.

Also, I've always heard there are a bunch of hot chicks in Texas. Perhaps Turbo can confirm. And actually, these girls I just met the other night in Vegas were from Texas. A couple of them were quite impressive:

jenzkc, they've got some amazing mountains in Croatia. Both places are nice, but perhaps not well suited for long term living.

i personally wouldn't get bored too quick in ljubljana. spent a week there once. zagreb nightlife is really close too. vienna is only like 4 hours away. venice is like a 30 min catamaran ride away.

true, croatia has mountains, but they're not as developed for hiking/tourism as the slovenian mountains (julian alps) AFAIK (except for the plitvice lakes area)... and much less impressive looking. can't ski in croatia either... not that the slovenian skiing is anything to brag about.

Hey man, I'm from NYC. There are a lot of good neighborhoods here and it's a fucking awesome city to live in. A lot of things to do and see. Just be prepared to have money since it's expensive living here.

Are you looking to buy a house? Or are you fine with living in an apartment? Places like Long Island City and Astoria have some sexy condos for a good price (at least according to NYC standards) that may be worth a look.

Barcelona would be very much considered western Europe.

Barcelona is nice and I could probably live there. It's got a good artsy vibe about it, has an excellent music festival every year called Sonar, and is on the sea.

However, with Spain approaching 20% unemployment, the worst in Europe, petty crime is way up. There's been lots of muggings reported by people I know visiting Barcelona.

I'd really like a place in Ibiza. It's a beautiful lush green island with many spectacular properties with land away from the nightlife, but that element is there for you when you want it, and it's some of the best in the world.

Croatia looks amazing. So do some of the coastal areas of Italy and Greece. I have friends in Sweden and the girls and nightlife there look spectacular. I could easily just hop around Europe for years living in different places.

Those pictures of Switzerland above are amazing. You could see similar sights in the rocky mountains too though.
