Should we merge all the primary categories together into one large forum category?

I'd just like to see what the natives think, so your vote counts here on an upcoming change that may or may not happen.

Do you think we should merge all of the primary categories together into one large section?

It would still leave 3 categories
1- Primary (everything)
2- Marketplace
3- Suggestions/Feedback

The good news about merging everything together is that people would get a really awesome chance at seeing more threads than usual, and there would probably be a lot more activity on the forum and on the threads themselves. Also, with the new tags being implemented, every new thread author would find it mandatory to tag their thread with the icon that is as targeted as possible. A new search feature would also allow users to align the threads by tag category and it would also work in searching as well. Another great benefit is that even though threads now see an avg of 1.5 pages per lifespan of the thread, it will most likely double, and you'll get responses quite quickly to new threads. If a thread is just pointless and doesn't deserve merit for being on the first page, then it will quickly find itself demoted to another page by being pushed down by the more popular ones.

The downside is that I may have to get another server to handle the anticipated load over the upcoming months as the forum grows larger and larger, but that's not such a big deal at all for me.

yes, but should also have shooting the shit for all the misc stuff

Yeah I was thinking in line with this, have shooting the shit and then Primary/marketing/overall forum. Eh, either way, I'd like condensing in one way or another.

Well wouldn't that have to be done anyway? Or do you mean by having only one forum activity will increase either way?

If a topic is difficult to answer, it'll be pushed off to the second or third page if it doesnt receive any replies fast enough. And most people don't browse past the first page.

Absolutely positively NO! Sorry.
I second that, it's a bad idea.

NO! Absolutely NO. The categories are what attracted me to this place.

that is why i like the idea of having shooting for shit and then a marketing/primary forum as well. Add up the numbers, shooting for shit is basically equal to all the other marketing forums combined.

I'm for it and if posts getting knocked down to fast is a problem set the default posts per page to 40 or something.

It should go like this:

1. Shooting the Shit
2. Internet Marketing
3. Suggestions

It's perfect, because we can separate the crazy threads from the ultra-crazy threads.

No.

I don't want to read shooting the shit type threads mixed in with traffic/aff marketing, etc.

Maybe if it was like this:
1- Primary (affiliate marketing, traffic, content, etc)
2- Marketplace
3- Shooting the Shit
4- Suggestions/Feedback

But, it's convenient how it is now. I don't want to have to use the search function everytime I come here, and I never use "new posts" b/c I'd have to wade through all the worseless posts. With categories I can just go straight to traffic , affiliate marketing ,etc.

I say have a StS , Aff Mktg , Marketplace, Sugg/Feed ,

I agree that i dont want to have to read a mix of threads for something im looking for... If anything I say keep it like it is and merge a few of the less used ones together. Will get the same result.

Hire a vbulletin programmer and give people both options, default to merging all the catagories. ;)
I have seen this done on a forum. They have a forum called 'all threads' and you get to view every thread on the forum.
