It's a small amount for FB but this is about FB's reputation which is worth a heck lot more than $300k. They can't come off as so naive as getting scammed by a random 20 year old. So this deed cannot go unpunished in the public eye.

Putting $300k in a cayman account or buying a real estate, and then what? It's not a life changing sum these days. Not that buying fast cars with the money is rational...but we're waaaay past arguing about Grunin's rationality....

It's not like it's a few million dollars where he can wire the money offshore, live offshore and give a big "fuck you" to FB and the feds...like this guy did.

Yeah, there was an article or two about a guy that owes them somewhere between $370k and $600k. The guy said he isn't paying because a lot of the clicks are fraudulent, not real people, or didn't even show up on his site. They haven't gone after him at all apparently.

Martha Stewart theoretically robbed the marketplace of about $30k insider trading a biotech stock - she did 5 months.

Just like NAME GRUNIN it was the act that got her there - not the amount.

And btw, the corporation doesn't exist that won't want to royally kick someone's ass for cheating them out of $300k, most especially when it's an individual who's been previously punished on a proprietary level - I would think his actions pissed off an entire department.
 
Sentenced in August 2010 to 3 years in prison for Felony Firearm possession. The guy hasn't even been out of jail for a year and he's already managed to hook up a gig as a fake lawyer.

Oh I am absolutely 100% in agreement with you that FB will kick Grunin's ass for this to make an example out of him to discourage other people from doing the same thing. Also this kind of identity theft is harmful to FB's reputation, even though the monetary amount taken from them isn't large.

I'm just saying the actual amount of money Grunin stole is via identity theft is pathetically small and that he's a moron to get himself into so much hot water over petty cash. It's something someone with a severe learning disability would do because they don't understand short term gains and long term consequences.
