Best way to deal with this type of issue is to get in front of it, apologize, take responsibility for your ex-employee's idiocy, and explain the actions you've taken to make amends.

This news is very comforting for me. When I hear businesses act as stupid as this one (seriously? after one of your staff insults customers you won't give them $10 worth of product free? Even AFTER they demand it? Seriously? the fuck) I'm reminded that I have competitive edges where I don't even know it.
