How to best monetize a blog?

Ads under every post? On the side?

Talking about a link dump / fun type blog here.

(Sorry, I am dead tired)

Congrats on accepting the Moderator position Emp.. Welcome to the team.

I think newsletters are pretty underrated ways to monetize blogs. Newsletters are good because you know the people on your site like to read updated shit. Maybe targeting offline and local advertisers to drop some change and sponsor the newsletter itself may be a good route to go. If it's just blog shit you want, you can always approach other blogs in your sector to either cross promote with a link, or stick on some PPC ads. If it's a blog for webmasters, be careful, and just try and approach services for the industry that will sponsor a spot for $50 or $100 a month. For all other blogs, advertisers are plentiful, but make a media kit for them so you can oooh and ahhh them with nice graphics, and then make it cheap for them to advertise. Always compare your ads to offline advertising when approaching local businesses, because you know they spend a crapload and get a very shitty response, so make yourself look like the god of new business.

Let's put it this way.. I have a team of 3 guys that do nothing but research on people I am potentially going to work with. I like to know everything about people and companies I am going to work with, and what type of risk, if any is involved before we ink anything. But that's just me and my paranoia I guess, because when I make a bet, I do it to win, not gamble.

Usually people are pretty open when they trust you so they tell you their sites, just like I share mine with people I trust and like. No, I will not share their sites with you, because it's their own business, and I don't shit where I eat or burn bridges unless someone fucks me over first.

This team doesnt work full time for you I assume, is this a group of consultants?

I did my part. Now post those links buddy! :fart:

You mention 7search and searchfeed on your blog as sources for cheap traffic. I've seen horror stories of clickfraud being through the roof on those smaller, lesser known engines... do you find the conversion rates from the traffic from those engines being comparable to the traffic from the big 3's PPC services?

I'm trying to do PPC arbitrage on one of my sites, but I managed to confuse Adsense and now I have crappy, low-paying ads on my page. Is there any way I can fix that, and do you have any suggestions for avoiding it in the future?

What are your big plans for the future with the money you have?

My goal is for my company to be making at least $300M by 2010. With the money? Not sure. I'm big on giving cash to charities like USO, and things for dog sanctuaries (I'm a big fan of dogs). Maybe I'll buy Shitepoint. I never really thought about it to tell you the truth, my goal has always been, make as much as you can now, and think about it later.

I'm about to go take a shit and won't be back 'till after this is over so I might as well ask now...

Assuming that 7search and searchfeed convert well for you... care to share any other sources for arbitrage traffic?

It's a group of some guys I have been good buddies with for many many years. When I need something done, they are there for me, and the same goes for me for them. I don't pay for the information, they supply it for free. That's what friends do, favors with no strings attached.

Jon you suck, 300 million, ha! Expedia.com does over 500 million in revenue every three months, and I own a small percentage of that company! But then again, their market cap is around 3 billion. So I guess that will make you almost a billionaire; like me, if you get listed on the NASDAQ too. Oh, I forgot to mention that I only own 100 shares. So I guess you don't really suck, hahahhaa.

For arbitrage, the small engines are your friends, for anything else, except maybe newsletter signups, they suck a big fat dick. As for horror stories, yeah, I have some too from them, but that's also because I tried using them for CPA deals, which is horrible. Get a program that monitors clickfraud and talk to them about it, they are generally VERY good about refunding credits.

Hmm... Do you buy links from sites (Adbrite, etc) for arbitrage or no?
Also, what the heck happened to your MS train endeavors????

I have been thinking of newsletters for a while. Jon, do you use Aweber often, and if so what have u used it for, and how profitable has it been for you?

I signed up for it a month or two ago to use for members here, but never got around to it. I still need to get a template designed and figure out what the hell I can even write to update people on. All I know, is that it won't be for an ebook like other people did..
