I love living in a 3rd world shithole.

Also, northeast India is like a separate country by itself. It is very different from India of the plains. In Sikkim the people are educated, world aware, own iphones and speak English. The roads aren't full of rubble and filth. There is 24/7 uninterrupted electricity (except Mumbai and Delhi, nowhere else in India does), 3G internet works, and the water coming out of the taps is safe to drink as well

But it is a bit of a police state in that smoking hash is frowned upon. But all you have to do is cross the border to a poorer state. This is where some of the best hash and weed in the world are made :)

THISSSS sounds so awesome.

I have to visit there one day.

Best weed and hash in the world.... hmm

I hope to live somewhere in a 3rd world country one day but with a lot of money,

I want to live lavishly and not have to worry about the police or anything else for that matter.

Planning to move shortly, so checking out rentals. Here's what you get for about $2300/month here:

Chiang Mai Real Estate - Houses for Rent in Chiang Mai

Or this:

Chiang Mai Real Estate - Houses for Rent in Chiang Mai

You get the idea. At the same time, you can rent a small, 1bdrm condo in rainy Vancouver for the same price. Nice condo, but very small. Gotta say, considering I can work from anywhere in the world, I think I'll stick with the 3rd world shit hole. :)

Absoulutely fucking amazing. 2300/month for that amazing sprawling land?! What's the security/love or hate for whity americanos? ;)

Thats my dream house one day..... soon hopefully.

I could really get used to living in a third world country.

I'm thinking more of somewhere like bali though, super cheap rent still and great party life.

Chiang Mai? We're quite welcome. The locals tend to look at us like we're walking wallets, but other than that it's a great place full of us whities, which they call "farang."

I really wanna go back to Thailand... Switzerland is so boring and plain in comparison...

I'm glad you brought this up. I was gonna move to Sweden until I heard they were being taken over by Muslims.

Do you really live in Switzerland and what is it like?

There is a lot of negativity and aggression in cities, especially third world. I grew up in Mumbai and was angry and paranoid all the time. You can't escape the filth, traffic, pollution and stupid people no matter what in a third world city.

I moved to Gangtok last month and it's nice out here. Relaxing and peaceful. I am not saying that it's perfect (it's a small town after all), but it beats a third world shit city any day. This is about as cheap as the far suburbs of Bangkok, but great fresh air and the climate is cooler as well. A higher quality of life too, it doesn't really feel third world. Northeast India has several such towns. Clean, livable and still very cheap. Gangtok is probably the most developed. My only gripe is that there are no hookers here.

Gangtok is great. I love Sikkim. I lived across the valley from you in Rumtek for over a year. It's paradise if your into good clean living, great people, and quiet life. I will definitely be back.

Sikkim is a magical place. I really don't consider it to be India, even though it's technically part of India now. A lot of people there speak Nepalese or Tibetan.

I wish it was easier for foreigners to stay long term there and more employment opportunities. I could happily live the rest of my life there.

Dude, the Euro crash is imminent. GTFO of there, you're right inbetween them all and it could get all apocalyptic on your ass in no time.

I'll be back in Thailand in September if everything works out.

But I am not too worried about Switzerland, we have a good track record of being able to stay out of trouble. But of course I would rather watch it from a safe distance...

Most people seem to have money. But it seems to come from the (mostly Indian) tourist trade. I wish they kept the Indians out...they bring India with them (littering etc.). Also I really have no desire to interact with Indians on a daily basis, I've had enough of them for one lifetime. Most, especially the peasants, are some seriously fucked up people in every possible way. Nepali is the local language, but being a colony of India most are brainwashed into learning to speak Hindi.

When I tell people I'm from Bombay most seem to be impressed instead of sympathetic. Bollywood and cable TV are a widespread problem here as well. Of course, I go with the flow and tell them how awesome Bombay is...
