How to track keywords... Easiest Way...

I've made a few hundred dollars this month thanks to everyone's input here. I know they say you shouldn't track keywords blah blah. I don't care I want to test some keywords to see if they're too broad and how they convert. What is the best way to do this?

I'm doing affiliate Marketing.
 


Stop paying attention to whoever told you not to track keywords. Amazing differences in tiny nuances that are not readily apparent unless you track everything. Start with 20 or so of your highest volume keywords and go from there...

Tracking methods depend on who you are working with network wise, arbitrage etc.
 
It will depend on whether you're going direct to the merchant, or using a landing page. If you're going direct from PPC ads, the *easiest* way would be to just use {keyword} as your subid, and the keywords will show up in your azoogle reports. However, it might be possible that odd characters in the keyword string could screw up the link.

If you're using your own landing page, you can parse the keywords yourself from the http referrer, or put something like kw={keyword} in your url and then grab it from the query data. Then save it in a database and pass the database ID as your subID to azoogle. (I'm doing both ways) How you do that will depend on your setup. I believe there are scripts available for purchase that will do all that for you too, but I haven't looked at any.
 
If you use azoogleads, you'll see that there is a line right above the contextual link. In this box, if you type a keyword there, it will add the keyword as a sub id. You can then view reports in azoogleads by sub id. It will show you clicks, impressions and leads, for each sub id (keyword). If you have a giant keyword list, this may get hard. You will then want to learn some PHP and MySQL to setup your own tracking on your pages, so that you can pass the appropriate sub id to azoogle through the link.

If you are using PPC, a few companies have Dynamic Keywords. You can use this dynamic keyword tool combined with sub id tracking to track keyword lists of any size, even in the 10s of thousands. If you want more info on this, post back here.

You need a program to dynamicly assign subids to all affiliate URLs, then have your database log that subid and the referal string. You can then log into your affiliate network and cross reference the subids that converted (or didn't) with the keyword referal in your database.

I would like more info on this please!
 
I have 50k keywords in adwords. I'm using a landing page. I have google already push the keyword and my landing page is /index.php?key={keyword} which puts my keyword on the page in a few places.
 
You don't need to track every single keyword (manually). The easiest way is to track them by using affiliate networks that support and display subids (such as Azoogle or Hydra). It is far too tedious to test keywords individually. Divide your keywords for every campaign into a few categories. Test the categories and narrow them down from there. It speeds up the process and helps you identify successful groups for each campaign.

(added) If your network can place you a pixel on the offer page, then you can use any kind of automated conversion tracking for each kw.

Heed this advice at your peril. I have very solid evidence that plurals and singular keywords require different ad copy and convert at vastly different levels. I also know that certain terms that otherwise seem exactly the same can have hugely different conversion rates.

I am not saying you need to track every single keyword, but in most campaigns less than 50 keywords drive a huge percentage of the volume. If you are not willing to set up separate tracking URL's for these words then you are probably not maximizing your revenue or profits.

Small subtle changes can mean absolutely huge differences in CTR and conversion. Not every keyword should be treated alike.
 
I agree with elephant with
azoogleads and use a landing page with lots of keywords
