I'm pretty new here but have been making huge money online for the last seven years, so I wanted to make one of my first posts one that helps members to understand a fact that many SEO "experts" disregard.
It's to do with the difference between traffic and sales, and the reason that the two are often confused. It's also to explain why you need to spend some money on PPC before you even think about SEO.
1) Run PPC traffic to your site using as many keywords as you can think of.
2) Measure conversions like mad. Kill keywords that don't perform. Optmise bids and work on variations of keywords that do perform.
3) Now you have the data that tells you which keywords make you a profit.
5) Develop SEO'd sites around the converting keywords. Start getting links by exchanging, buying, and all the other clever SEO stuff that you can read about all over here and other forums.
6) (Optional) As your SEO sites start to rank and drive traffic, reduce and eventually stop the PPC.
7) Go to the beach, and employ someone else to invest your money for long term capital growth.
The alternative is to save the PPC spend, put loads of time and/or money into ranking for some generic term with loads of competition, and then finding out once you get there that people searching on that term don't turn into customers. PPC gives you lots of data very quickly and a vital and all to often overlooked step in making real money from the web.
It may take a year or so, but believe me, this works. And no, I don't wanna sell you an e-book, or have you join my mailing list.
