How to SEO your way to a million

So wait you should SEO for targeted phrases that convert and have less competition and not general terms that don't and have tons of competition?

I guess it seems pretty obvious to guys like me that only ever have done paid traffic but I bet that's a tip plenty of SEO guys could use. The problem is most (certainly not all) of the people that do SEO do it because they don't want to pay for PPC traffic.

I'm with Mike on this too..

Thing is.. most ( and I say most ) good SEO guys are horrible at PPC/Paid, and most good PPC/Paid guys are horrible at SEO.

Kinda like designers and programmers, most great designers are horrible at coding and vice versa.

I also thought this was obvious as well, but I know lots of guys that cant do paid anymore ( traditionally ) on Google, Yahoo and MSN cause of account banned issues. Doing it on a 3rd tier might work, but I think your gonna get results that are off.

Yeah, that is often the case. Which compounds the cost issue, since testing every kw/phrase you can think of would be pricey for anyone, but especially for someone not great at ppc and consequently getting a worse QS for their ads.

Either way, definitely sound advice.

Wonder what ways an SEO type could piggyback off PPCers' research - maybe something like SpyFu.. see what KWs they're continuing to bid on over the long haul. Reasonable to assume consistent conversions for consistent bids...

Basic shit like this gets overlooked. The most important thing for a business is cash flow. The problem with most guys going straight into SEO is that there's a huge gap between getting started and getting paid. Meaning - you end up having to take on a job in the meantime or find some other means to pay expenses. Which leads you to forgetting about ever had made sites. DUrrr

Anyways, times to start making use of all those KW containing domains I bought.

as long as we're being broad people need to start thinking BROADLY.

I just build a site to get back into the weight loss space, it's a BROAD yet niche site. That is- the visitors should be relatively targeted, but they're not looking for acai, or colon, or one specific meal plan or some specific workout like P90x. Instead they're just looking for information about weight loss (again albeit one portion of this), but don't overlook the thought of building/seoing something like (and I HAVEN'T LOOKED)

"vegetarianweightloss.com" and a whole site built around this- a lot of people who could be prime (or rather could have been prime) berry/colo/etc customers maybe looking for info about being a vegetarian solely for weight loss- a hell of a lot of different books/diets/etc talk about this.

IMO spend a good chunk of the SEO effort thinking about something that won't vanish overnight- great rankings yet no products are worthless. Fat people will always want to LOSE WEIGHT, they may not always be wanting "ACAI BERRIEZ"

But the PPC winners to SEO idea is very good.

Doing PPC or SEO at a high level takes skill and capital, doing both more so. Some people may be able to flip between them. Few will make millions at it.

If you're serious about SEO, learn how to organically discover kws. I think Eli has a post or two about it at Bluehatseo.

Just to answer the question concerning my definition of huge. My best year to date, in US dollars, was 7 figures, the first of which was a 4.

And one of the reasons I don't bother with a4u any more is neatly summarised in the childish reactions to the thread referenced above. In fact, it's one of the very reasons I LOVE this place. Not quite sure why, but most UK people would much rather win an argument than make a friend.

In fact, my brother and I were discussing this very subject, the difference between the US and the UK's attitudes to success just yesterday. It is best summed up, in our view, by this example..

I drive down a street in the UK in my Aston - average reaction = "Look at that flash cunt"
Ditto in the US = "Congratulations, I bet he worked hard to earn that, well done"

That's the number one reason I spend as little time as possible in the UK these days. The shitty weather coming a very close second :)

With apologies for the multiple post, one more thing worth mentioning.

I have received a few emails and pm's asking about the affiliate marketing school and how much it costs etc.

The answer is that it costs nothing at all.

We do also run a CPL network, Lead Clearing House, and if our school members choose to work with it, we do make a profit, but only if our members do.

The fact remains, however, that the advice and training we provide is completely free of charge and there are absolutely no catches.

Hey Michael, welcome to WF :) Was in Whistler just couple of days ago - damn that was one hell of a party there last time! Got to talk to you soon about some of them TCH leads

Hi - didn't realise you were a member here!

We skipped Whistler this year as my kids' school holiday meant that we'd have to be there during the Olympics. Went to Vail instead, where Scott managed to knock himself out on the first day by crashing whilst wearing a silly comedy ski hat instead of his helmet. Not the best of trips.

Anyway, get in touch - it would be great to catch up.
