Try to use 2 slightly contrasting colors for vibrance- dont make a logo 6 shades of green for example. You would want green and yellow, or blue and red/orange/pink for example.

I would suggest searching on YouTube for some tutorials. You can find some good ones there. I like to use Pixlr to create simple logos, PhotoShop is too much for me, lol.

Also, you can get some pretty decent logos made on Fiverr.
