Bad things coming in threes is fiction for me this year, as they came in sixes, and I feel like I *must* get away for a vacation. My business is unfinished, and the affiliate offers need constant vigilance and maintenance. Once things are a bit more settled, I want to get away.

How do you manage vacations while running an affiliates business? Do you leave your business in the hands of a trusted helper? I am fortunate for having two very competent and trustworthy friends who can take over for a week, so I may just do that.

Yeah you can leave everything to your friends while you're gone, maybe they'll come up that money stats are growing when you're not there :) (joke)

great thing by affiliate ppc marketing is that you can allways hit pause button

Turn it all off or you'll be worried the whole time and that's no fucken vacation. Everything will be better if you just take a 100% break and when you come back you'll be charged to make some money.

Suppose you could set daily budget if you were using pay per click advertising and set it at a low limit so that it would not matter if you lost this money. But I think advice about stopping totally is better.

Vacation? What's that?!?

Okay, so did I miss other terrible things that have happened to you? Last I knew, you were up to three things... what else happened to get you to 6?

January, had a front-end smash up of the car, March, partner dies suddenly, March, mother goes into the hospital for routine hip replacement surgery, April fourth coder fails to do site work, April, mother develops hip wound infection and needs to return to hospital. April-May, mother remains in hospital for 6 weeks. May, another car accident, this one minor. May, mother develops a second infection in the hospital, this one in the heart valve. Mother returns home from hospital, needs intense care at home including IV line. Ten days later, mother passes away after showing improvement. June, fired from long-time freelance job. June, site work still not finished, but there's hope, and now I find myself an exhausted, neurotic heir with an estate that needs six months of probate and can't afford to replace the car yet. Was this six things? I lost count.

Damn, you had a bad 2007 :(

If I were in the same situation, I would go on a backpacking trip for a month or two. Somewhere with beautiful nature and non-Western standards, like Asia or South-America. I went to Malaysia for 24 days last summer and it was very refreshing. Depending on what kind of person you are, getting completely out of this life for a while can do you very good.

Hella,

I feel for ya, man.

When you do decide to get away and are considering where to go, here's a little advice. Steer clear of places with predatory animals, shear cliffs and rapidly flowing water. Better safe than sorry.

Hope things begin to look up for ya soon. :D

Go with BYA on this one. I have done the vacation thing and let my little helper run things while I was gone. That's no vacation, I was constantly on the phone or on my laptop. Just stop everything and forget about it until you get back.

I don't know about you guys, but I enjoy going on vacation and knowing I am making money. Fuck, it makes the vacation 100x better and I can truely relax.

If your within the United States get yourself an internet-enabled phone. Then just login to check your stats once or twice a day to make sure everything is going smooth. 5 minutes and your done. One thing to watch out for is that not all browers can correctly log into Adwords, and I haven't even tried yahoo or msn with their fancy and annoying crap. Even so you should be able to get internet access for your laptop through your phone.

Hella,

I feel for ya, man.
A chick, actually. :D

Thanks for believing my story. If I wasn't me, I might not believe my story either. I'm not really complaining here, as I have much to be grateful for, but I'm kind of shell-shocked over all the things that have happened to me this year, and it's only half over. I keep waiting for the next shoe to drop.

I have a vacation dealio that I can do on the cheap. Greyhound bus was giving out tickets as part of a sweepstakes, and I won a code for a round tripper, so I have a bus ticket that will take me to San Ysidro, then to the border down to Tijuana. I have been there before, but only passing through, and I wanted to go back and see it right. I love seeing the country from "see" level. All I need to do is get a hotel. This would be my fourth bus trip across the country.

When I get back, I look forward to making a living running my incentive site and working on the blogs I'm developing. I have never actually made a living as a writer, but running a group of blogs on topics that interest me is an enviable alternative to 9-5.

I wouldn't take a laptop with me on a cross-country trip (I'm in the NY metro area), but I have an invaluable webmaster/friend who can watch things on the tech end. My partner's widow can also maintain the affiliates. See, I'm lucky having good friends that want to help me. :)

I haven't had a relaxing vacation since I can remember - always with the laptop and Blackberry.

It's almost useless going, except that my family has fun.

But considering the year you've had, I think the best thing for you would be to go cold turkey, even if it means losing a few bucks.

Take some serious R&R, lose yourself, re-charge the batteries and come back refreshed.

get a prepaid cell phone. give it to those who REALLY need to contact to you.

go somewhere without internet.

or just drive 3 hours away and rent a hotel room in a city for the weekend.

you deserve a break, it's tough being the internet police

May I suggest a backpacking trip? Thats what I am doing in mid July. For 2 weeks I'll be in Colorado on a 100 mile backpacking drip. Can't wait :)
