Hostgator going downhill - need SOLID alternative

funny. Im not the only person that noticed how shitty they've gotten. Bluehost/Hostmonster [owned by endurance just like hostgator] is still top notch.

Yeh me too, now I am with bulletproofvps and no problems yet, good uptime and professional support.

Hostgator is in the middle of a massive outage today. Time for me to jump ship as well. I will check out LiquidWeb.

Check out LiquidWeb on Twitter. They're offering a $100 coupon to switch. Seems like all the other hosting providers are circling like vultures today. And I can't say I blame them. Hostgator's 8-hour outage is inexcusable and their sporadic and useless status updates on their site are frustrating.

How great is it that their chat system is also down when their experiencing network issues

I think their chat system is down due to overload. Too many customers trying to reach them. The problem is one of transparency. Even though they were good about announcing the problem, they've been incredibly opaque on the specific reasons why and any timelines on fixes. Plus, they keep apologizing for "intermittent" issues, when many customers have been completely offline for 21 straight hours.

I have a dedicated server with them, and apparently the remaining networking issues are isolated to that pool. Nice--the premium customers get screwed. Two of my three sites on that server are responding but my main money site is dead in the water.

The only reason I need the site to come back online at this point is so that I can grab the latest backup and move to LiquidWeb.

massive outage yesterday and my main work email was down. Just moved remaining sites to Media Temple. I am done with them today.

Godaddy is decent and cheap....for as much flak as it gets.....but if your doing blackhat I wouldn't use it...they will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat.....24hr customer service via phone is a plus too...

As of the past couple months my HG dedicated server seems to be fucking up at an unprecedented rate. I'm ready to move all my shit away from them, it's a shame because they have great support, but what good is that if my sites routinely go down?

I need a host I can depend on which has a history of absolutely minimal downtime. Any recommendations?

Hostgator has never been a good hosting company , not even their support - I had to wait for 15-30 minutes every time when i want to reach their live support .That was before a few months and now i'm with arvixe .. can recommend them though .

I am in the midst of migrating to KnownHost and they have been solid. Response time to a ticket is typically under 5 minutes.

But... I just set up a client on RackSpace and even through they are expensive, it is worth it if you have a mission critical site. The team over there was proactive in fixing a couple minor issues and then recommending optimization techniques. I was very impressed.

Its so shitty, i tried a few other shared hosting providers and they seemed quite bad as well. Finally said fuck it and am paying $15/mo for a VPS with root access. Best move I've ever made as far as hosting goes. (Plus, the DDoS support, which thankfully I haven't needed yet, is included at the network level and is a BEAST.. and I still only have to pay $15/mo).. Seriously, fuck shared hosting all together.

And for the record, hostgator USED to be good, decent speeds and good uptime.. but I've given it 2 tries since then over the last 2 years and they've failed miserably both times (Ended up getting refunded within a week both times). I will NEVER use them or recommend them to ANYONE in the future, ever again. In fact, I'm so disgusted by their service, anyone who asks me about them, I'll let them know how shitty they truly are, and I won't even have to embellish how terrible they are to dissuade anyone.. I'll just have to tell the truth.

I'm lookin at VPS right now and is Liquidweb so much better than Knownhost to justify the big price difference?

Also, Mr Jacksonian.. I doubt you'll see this but what's your VPS company that provides basic DDoS support?

Liquidweb ftw. I was being auto-billed with Hostgator for an account I had, and they switched something, now I can't automatically give them my monies anymore... Like I seriously have to login once a month to pay for the VPS I got with those clowns. How does that even make sense...
