Anyone here with gambling 'addiction'?

I don't feel like I have it badly, I haven't lost huge and I'm not going to do so but I find myself stupid when looking to recover that gambling loss.

I gamble when I have money, usually a resonable part of it. I'm not like I gamble the food money or the last penny I have but wasting money feels awful.

I'll probably get another break of it, pretty much sick. Started gambling very small amounts when I was young but once I got the sense of money I tend to raise the bet amount.

Anyhow, I have just self-excluded myself from bet365. I will probably make a 1-2 football bets with low amounts just for the fun of it but I'm done with the slots (at least for a long period).

Time to focus on IM more.

how you going to win, if there's no money on the table?

Lick your wounds and man the fuck up, and get back in there.

Are you being honest?

I started gambling at the beginning of the year because money would come in, which from an entrepreneurial standpoint felt like a win, and I'd get on a high but it would feel like it wasn't enough. So then I'd run and gamble to earn more.

Eventually this cycle caused me to continue to play catch-up, and that's when things got really bad.

If you're asking about it, you probably notice some red flags at which case you should address them. Honestly, the biggest thing that helped me was coming clean about it. To my wife, to my business partner, and to my peers.

It's embarrassing, and maybe you're stronger than I am, but I needed to stop before it ruined me. Change your habits. If you drink caffeine, take Adderral, drink alcohol, or do any other sort of recreational or prescribed drug, you might consider changing your consumption. For me, Adderral was in the mix, and this only instigated my problem.

In addition, fill the "gambling void" with a new hobby, almost immediately. Learn to code, take on a new side project, start running and keep a log, learn to cook, etc..

Pick something that will keep you stimulated and equally productive.

Join a clan and start gaming, that's good too.

Anyway, best of luck to you. Kick the addiction before it puts you in a headlock.

It aint gambling if you are not playing w/ the rent & food money. But if you really want to live on the edge, use the cell phone money.

How long you been clean now bro? Been worried about you. Whats it been 6 months? Have you been able to start to mend some of the broken fences?

Dude. Learn to count cards. No, you don't have to be a genius. It's actually quite simple, but requires a lot of practice.

It's just a matter of assigning +1(2-6) or -1 (10-A) or 0 (7,8,9) to cards as they come out on the table. The idea is that you increase your bets when the "count" gets high, which means there are more face cards than low cards left in the deck, thus making it more likely for you to beat the dealer.

You have to master what is called "basic strategy." This is the best play for every variation of hand possible. It can be done in a few hours.

It should satisfy your need for gambling without actually gambling. Don't be a gambler, be an "investor." Good luck bro.

Last time I gambled was early March. Only 5 months.

Honestly, just working has helped. Had to goto unemployment twice this year during that time frame, but things quickly picked up in May-June and it's been a ride.

I've turned working into a sort of game. Now my biggest problem is spending too much of my time analyzing revenue and expenses. It's the same kind of shit that makes the game Eve so appealing.

Build a business. Do some media buys or ppc to get clients/customers.. it's still a bit like "gambling" (since you never know if the ads will work). I find it better to "gamble" on your business that has the potential to turn into something viable for you than giving your money to your bookie.

You do realize that like 99% of Casinos use the black boxes now right?

Continuous shuffling machines? Yeah, they all do have those, but they also have regular shoes. A lot of blackjack players hate the continuous shufflers, and the casinos aren't exactly worried about people counting, since most people who try fail miserably.

This

When it comes to gambling the house always wins, but with ppc/media buying the data always wins.

I thought given the industry I work with, I would offer up the following:

According to your blackjack software tables, both the Unified Gaming and Boss Media systems give the player a slight edge. If this is so, how can the casinos that use these software systems turn a profit? Is it because relatively few players use basic strategy and/or good money management techniques?

Online casinos are not the only ones to offer positive expectation games. Using basic strategy some Las Vegas casinos offer games with a negative house edge. There are video poker games all over the country with a positive expectation assuming optimal strategy. The reason the casinos can afford to do this is that the vast majority of players make errors in strategy. As someone who has played hundreds of hours of blackjack in casinos all over the U.S., I seldom see other players playing proper basic strategy. Money management has nothing to do with it.
Taken from Blackjack - Online Blackjack - Ask the Wizard - Wizard of Odds

There are currently no Boss Media casinos that offer that single-deck blackjack variation that gives players an edge of about 0.15 percent. However, a number of Unified Gaming-powered sites still exist, and the player can get a 0.01 percent advantage under those rules on top of promotions. As far as I know, this is currently the most viable blackjack option going right now online.

My point is that card counting doesn't work when you're using a black box (shuffler). Counting isn't rocket science. But you still need a regular shoe to count, and most casinos don't use them anymore.

Right. Obviously.

But you're wrong about most not using regular shoes anymore. They absolutely do.
