Facebook Co-Founder Saverin Gives Up U.S. Citizenship Before IPO

Want to renounce your U.S. citizenship and go produce new wealth somewhere else? I'm cool with it, you're a free man. I
don't think you should pay taxes on the new wealth you create. But to renounce it to try to shortchange the country that helped you produce your current wealth? That's lame.
You should try reading the article.

Then how did you come up with the fact that he changed his citizenship to avoid taxes?

Eduardo is free to do whatever he likes, but I think it's pretty weak. Way to not give back to the country that helped make his wealth possible.

All the "yeah good for him, fuck america" noise in this thread is pretty gay too, especially if you live here. Hate your politicians, Hate your taxes, but don't hate your own country.
We have a lot of problems, We have a lot of waste, but we have a lot of good things too.

The fact is a lot of great companies come out of this country: Facebook, Twitter, Google, Apple, Microsoft. It's not a coincidence. I want my country to continue this into the future.

As for Facebook IPO'ing, is there money to be made? Fuck yeah. But I think the money is in playing the market, not by purchasing the stock and holding on to it for growth.

Your whole argumet is lame. The government is not an enabler of wealth or opportunity, it is an inhibitor and a destroyer of those things. Paying taxes only makes the government bigger and worse. Add to that the highly immoral actions of the government that you are supporting with your taxes. You have no moral duty to give back to the country that enabled your wealth by paying taxes to a corrupt and immoral government. Quite the opposite; if you are a thinking person with morals you strive to stamp out the cancer that is government and the only real way to do that is to starve it.

He still has to pay taxes... He just gets to set the price and therefore capital gains margin much lower then it would be after the IPO...

Try becoming a billionaire in a country without a well developed infrastructure. Libya, anyone?

Um. Clearly you do not know a thing about Libya and pulled that out of your ass because you have been watching tv. Libya had the best infrastructure in Africa (rivaling most of Europe) before the us fucked them.

Honestly, I don't even know why I care.. carry on sorry..

I'd rather have him take that money; he will probably invest it (another business = jobs), Buy a big house (construction jobs, house values around his home go up, more property taxes for local schools and roads).
Its to bad US citizens have to jump through hoops like this.

Government spending your money at its finest.

Considering he's renouncing his U.S. citizenship, I'm not sure how much time and money he's going to be spending in the states ;).

Um. Clearly you do not understand that JarredLv was quoting a comment from the bloomberg website.

So...anarchy?

Ways the government helps
Publicly educated employees that staff FB
Instrumental in creating the internet (which FB is a tiny bit reliant on)
Instrumental into the development of mobile and GPS technology (both of which FB utilizes heavily)
The creators of FB all met at Harvard, which gets around 20% of its money from gov grants.
Reliable infrastructure. the groundwork for high speed internet was supplemented heavily by federal and state governments.

I hate taxes and how the money gets spent as much as anyone, but to say that the government never helps create wealth is foolish.

Im of the opinion that there's an unlimited amount of wealth. But poor people and government seem to think his taking from everybody else.
Example on a small scale: He Builds a house (pays for construction work and materials, multiple families and business are injected with cash) After the house is done he still retains the monetary value in the house which he can later sell to get his money back. Whats better for the surrounding infrastructure then that. A flat sales tax is all we need, if the government would stop spending like drunken sailors. Oh wait that's rude to the sailors cause they spend their own money.

Once again, he's leaving the States bro. This isn't an issue of him reducing his tax burden, it's more about the fact that he's taking that money out of the States.

isn't this the reason for most of our economic problems?
So you're saying there's a set amount and the rich are just taking away from everybody else and government works like Robin Hood.

His doing it to reduce the tax bill.

I'm saying, you are saying money is unlimited... its not. everything is relative. the more money printed the less it is worth. where is your unlimited money coming from?

also i dont care that hes taking the money out of the usa... maybe america will wake up and realize being the top corporate taxing nation does not effect the rich in the slightest... it effects the small biz people...

which ultimately keeps widening that gap the 99% are complaining about

I'm not saying print money or borrow. Thats not wealth. Anything of value can be wealth, the question is can we create value.
