erect the impaler ... why excessive bumping is bad for your sales

Here's an idea:

1. Put a sticky thread in the Sell, Buy & Trade forum.

2. Lock down who can post in it. (The reason will be clear in a moment.)

3. When someone does something repeatedly that is "not okay" (like seomachine bumping his thread), name names, state reasons, and temp ban them. Make it public in the sticky thread.

If someone like plusmin asks for every free review imaginable to bump his itrader, put him on notice and temp ban him. Second infraction gets a permanent ban.

The mod can make the decision based on incident rate, number of reports, etc.

The thread should be locked down so competing vendors can't rake each other over the coals. That adds unnecessary noise to the signal.

These people are like viruses. Unless they're nipped in the bud, they will spread and infect the community. It has already begun to happen. Agent Smith has it right at 1:06.

1 month ban ... I hate bumpers

erect..

I spend a lot of time in that area, would be glad to help anyway possible...

We need:

1. Post Count to be increased or rule about no BST posting with below certain number. Agreed, I'll point one of the admins here after we have a solid plan / rules in place so changes can (hopefully) be made. I think one of the biggest issues is how our stickies work ... too many stickies = they don't read the rules.

2. Solid reviews for any new service before they can peddle there ware. Sounds good, but we can't force people to give away reviews ... just like they can't force us to buy their stuff. Nobody buys stuff that's not looked over by someone decent & approved so those guys never make any sales. Rule #1 would take care of that because with 100+ posts people would know how to make a successful thread.

3. Possibly have a link to report the offenders or send p.m to you? I get enough PMs already, I'd love this to turn into a 10 page thread with roadkill all over the place. It's like impaling enemies at the gates of a city to warn off potential intruders. If this works out as well as I hope, it'll be stickied in SBT so people are adequately warned.

4. All basic rules to be followed or instant ban no questions asked. That's the plan

5. IQ's above room temp or no post at all :) We've talked about a basic quiz for registration before, not sure what became of it (too difficult to implement?) but this idea has value

6. Ban guerilla for a week just for the fuck of it (and free DFB for 2 months for all with over 600 posts) Wats a DFB?

Though I think guerrilla may be a little too polite on them sometimes.
I try to be polite if they follow through on what they are selling. Also, I am a vendor, have been for over a year, and I try not to shit where I eat.

I suggest people look for products and services with MULTIPLE reviews from people who know what they are talking about. I suggest everyone does their diligence first. Review copies are only capable of communicating so much.

In all exchanges, caveat emptor.

And... I have been turning reviews down left and right. If you're interested in doing reviews, PM me and I will try to push them to you. But if you don't complete them, or you think this is about free stuff, you will get everyone breathing down your neck, so do it because you want to help the community not because you think it will help your marketing efforts because there is very little profit in writing reviews for $20 and $40 services each day.

How about, anyone who posts a "free review" request more than 10 times in one week, gets auto-banned?

Should cut down on the serial freebie seekers.

It you make a 100 post requirement to post a thread in BST, you are clearing out 90% of the bullshit.

If someone tries to spam to 100 posts... you will see it instantly.

Brilliance, let's do this.

Some "established" members are gonna need to change their ways if this goes thru. I might be talking to myself here.

Hey Grindstone,

I get a lot of value out of your reviews and input. Not talking about you at all.

There are some serial freebie-seekers here who get their post-count and iTrader shockingly high simply by demanding review copies. Simple mod review of a person's posting history and iTraders should reveal a smoking gun.

How about anyone with under 1000 posts, who requests 10 or more reviews per week? ;)

7 day ban ... Take heed sellers, the # of bumps you're giving is directly related to how long you are banned

Do this and then adjust for any new problems that arise. Like 07 said, it will clear up a lot of the problems.

Easiest way to clean up BST is enforce post limitations and for legitimate services, charge them a flat rate fee just to create a thread.

Then have them go through a review/screening process to make sure the work is upto par, if they pass all those loops then they deserve to sell their services here.

Otherwise GTFO and go back to WAFO and DP
