Since getting pwned by an asian girl-ninja and having the most emberassing pics of my life posted all over the Internet, I've actually found another way to make some hellified cash.
Project: Niche Business Directory
Exp Level: Basic - Mid-level (The heavy rollers who want to make a shit-load of money can do this To)
Cost: $150 - $600 depending on software, advertising you want to do, etc...
The concept: you create an online directory tailored to a specific niche and sell advertising/listing upgrades to niched businesses.
**note: works REALLY well with offline businesses (at least that's what I'm currently doing)
The building blocks:
1. You'll need data. I had a YellowPages.com Scraper made and pulled data from specific categories
2. You'll need directory software. You can make your own or buy some.
3. You'll need a niche (daycares, pet stuff, etc), or you'll need to go very local. and by very local I mean get suburb about it. (ex: you live in Dallas, do Plano/Frisco businesses to start with)
Obviously you can grow this bitch into anything you want, but these are the essentials.
I suggest adding some niche/local recognizable brand CPAs to your site ad 'featured advertisers' to give the feel that the big dogs are already advertising on your directory. Not to mention start making money off the traffic you'll be driving to the site.
Then, start campaigning your services to the businesses listed in your database.
BAM! Cash all day fools.
ok ok... I know you want some tips to skip past all the bullshit.... fucking lazy bastards...
Tip #1: Rates - to sell advertising as a directory, you'll want to offer rates. What I do is offer HIGH month-to-month rates ($75-$80) Vs. low yearly rates ($175 year for featured listings)
Tip #2: Banners - you can charge to make the banner for your customer ($65 - $100) and then charge for placement (impressions or time... your choice)
Tip #3: FREE LISTINGS - this is a must, because it will allow you to collect the ever elusive email address from the business owners.
Tip #4: do some really good offline marketing. you'll have the mailing info for your target market, so hit them with a packet of info about your directory, or give them a call.
Tip #5: offer shit that YellowPages doesn't. Content, RSS, Event listings, whatever. be creative.
I've sold 5 $1,000+ packages and several $300+ packages in the last month, so I proved that this shit will work, is easy, and is actually pretty fucking fun if you just sit down and do it.
Now go my children.... MAKE SOME FUCKING MONEY
AND VOTE FOR RON PAUL!!!!!!!
