Taking 5 minutes of my break to ask this question here.

I've got some pretty crappy back pain. I feel it all day long, a dull pain in the lower left portion of my back. I especially feel it if I bend over to pick things up. Even standing upright can be a bit annoying. Sitting isn't terrible, but it can also get uncomfortable. I think you get it: my back hurts.

I've got an appointment scheduled for some physical therapy next month, but in the mean time, what are some things (stretches or general habits) you guys do to alleviate lower back pain?

Get a computer chair with better support. I used to have terrible back problems after track weekends with the car until I replaced my seats with some really nice, supportive seats that fit my body well. No more back pain.

Read up on it. Go see a teacher. Experience it. Change your life.

It's not some sci-fi shit, its learning how to un-do all of your shitty habits of movement and posture you've been accumulating since you were a child. It will open your mind and you'll experience your body in a whole new way.

It's more than just standing up straight, you need to work with a teacher. You'll get at the root of the problem and save yourself years of physiotherapy and chiropractors, which just treat symptoms of the underlying problem.

Just a warning, you'll also see how dysfunctional everyone around you is in their movement and posture. Once you go down the rabbit hole you can't come back...

Find a Dr to hook you up with some OxyContin. It does wonders for back pain as well as extreme focus

big time here.. resulting from a deadlifting injury a few years ago.. i've been good the last 5-6 months, but started doing sprints a week ago and here it is again.. it'll likely be another 2 months of constant lower back pain.

i have upper back pain, just between my neck and middle back right on the spine.

I tend to lean forward, like a hump on my back in my chair.. fucks up my day after a while.

Trying to move to standing instead of sitting.

How much do these sessions cost?

I have scoliosis, 4 herniated discs, and permeant nerv damage. I'm in constant pain and it sucks.

Have you considered acupuncture ? I have had to have it done twice for separate issues and it worked wonders. You usually go like once a week for about a month and problem solved. Unless you have a serious problem that needs surgery, you may find it to be a god send

Squats, Deadlifts and fishoil will heal it :P

This helped my lower back too, lots of lower back & hamstring strengthening and I was pain free for a year. I then gave myself a hernia and cut back and almost immediately threw my lower back out getting out of a car.

Moral of the story : Do it, but don't overdo it!

OP, have you gone to get checked out to make sure you don't have a medical issue causing it?

I did recently. But my medical care isn't top notch (military), so I have an appointment scheduled for "physical therapy" in December.

I've never had this tweaked of a back before though. Started over the summer. Figured it would go away. I've also been absent from the gym for some time now. Maybe that's part of the problem.

Was considering yoga...

I pretty much have the exact same symptoms as you listed. Just minor things can set it off, it's in my lower back. The other day I was just leaning over the bathroom sink and I started getting twinges. It's difficult in the gym on leg day, can't do squats on the machine or my back gets crippled. I got a squat belt to see if it helps, seemed to work the first week, tried it the second week and on the way to the gym just putting the belt on and tightening it too much set my back off, entire time at the gym was half-assed.

I also see a chiropractor, at first I went 2x a week, then later 1x a week, and now every 2 weeks. I don't think I'm seeing much improvement, maybe a little.

Now the day before yesterday I went for acupuncture, first time I've went. I was skeptical, don't really know anything about it. However, the next day I went to the gym was doing a barbell curl and going to failure and at the end my form screwed up big time and I felt in my back, then the exercise after that I felt the twinges in my back but, then they went away quickly and never bothered me again. Normally, I've thrown my back out doing less, like just raking leaves and looking down can cripple me.

It might be too good to be true, that the acupuncture did anything and that quickly. I'm going to keep going for few more treatments and see what happens, if I see improvement I'll continue if not, then I'll just stop. Tonight I was lifting some boxes to put in my car, and I started feeling it in my lower back which normally happens when I'm lifting boxes, etc. but once I got in the car, moments later the pain was gone. Anyway, like I said it may be to good to be true, since I'm not completely convinced that it was the acupuncture and I could be back in the usual pain soon. It's a worth a shot if you want to try it. I did feel really unexpectedly relaxed right after like more than after a massage, maybe it was just in my head.

This. I used to suffer from lower back pain - exercise regularly and you'll be fine.

edit: I'd literally feel dull, aching pain in my lower back 24/7. Started running + other stuff regularly and the pain went away after about a month (got slightly worse at first, but then disappeared completely).
