*random story incoming* Just the other day I went outside and there was a duck with a broken foot at the pond near my house. Other ducks were attacking him. I felt bad... got a towel, covered him up, picked him up, took him to the animal shelter. They put him to sleep... fixed his foot and hes doing great. :D

Such a heart warming story .. Maybe you should become a duck saver, better yet make a site about ducks...

Besides giving to charities, I find that after working a lot of crappy jobs in my life, now that I am making decent money I find I tip a much greater amount than I used to.

I'm wary of a lot of the larger charities, because they seem to have become too corporate. Too much money going to administration and executive salaries and not enough to doing the greater good.

It's not like the red cross hasn't seen their share of that. Remember the tsunami relief funds?

BRILLIANT!

I sponsor 10 kids throughout the world and I give 10% to my church. And I don't really make anything either.

I've donated over $15k to the USO and other non-profits that help the US soldiers in Iraq. I've also donated over $30k to charities that help dogs. Sorry, but I'm a huge fan of K9's.

Giving nice tips is about the extent of my generosity - I know the people are actually working.

Do you really think charity gets that big a slice of the tax dollars?

Some people can;t work - as in physically unable to work and need charity.

I don;t know about America but here in Australia the government gives next to nothing to charity - they need all the help they can get

The government doesn't give to charity but it gives to the poor both indirectly and directly. Public housing, food stamps, public education bahhhh...:angrysoapbox_sml:

I do not give away very much money at the moment, but I am "giving away" my time instead.

I am working about 40 - 60 hours per month on a home for mentally disabled children, and that is one of the most funny and learning things I have ever done. More than giving you a good feeling in your heart it is an excellent "break" from your computer desk.

Came across this site www.10over100.org

I have signed up to this although, not in a position to start contributing. The basis of this site is this. You make a pledge that:

"I, , hereby make a personal promise to give 10% of whatever I make over $100,000 each year to charity. "

Sign up! It will make you feel better.

Right now, although I dont have much to give to charity, I often do random acts of kindness to strangers. In a drive through, buying the person behind me a coffee is my favourite. 1. It confuses the hell out of them, but it also puts them in a good mood, and that positive energy reciprocates through their day, and touches many others.

There is somethng to the theory that you get 10 fold back. I think most beliefs have a version of giving a percentage. 10% is a good number, but anything is a good start and will be blessed.

Personaly....when I do it, doors open up.
I get amazing deals, what I need is on sale, things don't break down, etc.

You can develop the giving skill anytime. Start w/a dollar or a hundred....just START. There are more than enough non-profit organizations out there. People in genuine need will cross your path. Look and you Will find REAL needs out there. Trust your gut...try it!

:music06: Jan,
You are a VERY SMART lady and I believe what you ae saying
about giving is TRUE because the BLESSINGS do come back to you.
I've had it happen to me many times !:playboy_sml:
