Disaster Preparedness: Are you ready?

I realized there are some other things I had or had packed that I didn't pull out in the house the other night....I snag some picks off of facebook of them though.

12. Food Source

Food.jpg

cPeppers.jpg

I don't have anything fancy, I grow a few garden veggies. It wouldn't sustain me, but it would help better than nothing...and I could at least take the seeds and start somewhere bigger if I needed to. At least having a general understanding on how to grow your own food, is a plus. If you have a little space in you back yard, I would do it. Its nice having fresh tomatoes or peppers or even salad, fresh out of your own yard.

For those of you that live in apartments, they actually have indoor hydroponic, layered gardens that plant miniature food. You can basically grow everythin you'd put in a salad, and grow the lettuce as well. Cherry tomatoes, onions, lettuce etc. And it's small enough to fit on balcony or even inside your apartment and you'd grow it like people grow weed to smoke =D

13. Camouflage - Ghillie Suit

This is good for not only hunting, but scouting out or traveling anywhere in a world were chaos rules. The ability to choose when you can be seen and when you can't is a huge plus. I have a ghillie suit for hunting and I also always wear it, with this freaky skeleton mask on Halloween.

It is amazing how easily you blend in, even in urban areas. The great thing is, you can wear almost anything under it. Its really elastic and you can quickly pull the pants up and throw the jaket over every day clothes and BAM.. you can vanish.

Note: You can get these for like 20.00 - 40.00 at like academy. Or you can go big and get some really fancy ones for more.

Here is the suit when I wore it on halloween last year. (It was literally the funniest night ever, I scared so many people it was ridiculous)

Here is how well it works...in the DAY time.

Here is flat on the ground, at night. If the flash wasn't on, you wouldn't see anything at all.

These are close ups, and your expecting to look for something camouflaged, so they are more noticeable. In real life, you go unnoticed. On halloween night, I would literally lay on the grass and people would walk right past me and I'd jump up and scare the shit out of them.

14. Tent and Kayaks

ctent.jpg

I don't know how much I would want to stay in a tent in a zombie Apocalypse, but other disaster scenario's, you might want to get out of the city and until you build yourself another shelter, its nice to have something to sleep in.

Or even IN a zombie Apocalypse, depending on where you live...cities, mean people..and people = potential zombies. So taking off out into the woods, deep, and setting up camp until the dust clears...wouldn't be a bad idea...as long as you could set up some traps and warning signals.

The inflatable kayaks would be good as well. I have a lot of water and rivers around me... I have two jetski's, but they are gas hogs so I don't know how much help they would be. If I needed to get across water, I'd use these.

Im going to also assume zombies can't swim, so If I need to travel to different parts of my city, there are canals that run deep in to the urban areas with a lot of places I could pop out at. So I could use them to travel quietly and hopefully, where zombies aren't walking around =D

If zombie is a metaphor for mobs of desperate people trying to get your stuff then ok. But if you're worried about undead people then you need to stop watching so many brain eating movies and you won't be worried about brain eating zombies.

Are you an idiot? Zombies are real.

Distant relative who worked on the Manhattan project set me up with a little something special for this apocalypse.

The water purifier is so critical.
Very nice serrated knife HK, that's a keeper.
Great choice of bug out bag.. it's not army surplus that's good thing.

I would NOT plan on carrying around that bow, but thats a nice silent weapon and you can always have ammo f you go and retrieve your arrows from the dead dwight_shrute oh shit I am sorry, I mean zombie.

The leafy-bug suit is killer. Where did you get it and how can I get me one?

AKA ChickenFucker's relatives decide to start rioting again like in LA in 1992

HAHAHAHA. *Zing!* *Zang!* oh we are all so kind and loving to each other. *Zing!*

I would drop the fucking flashlight concept, every heard of third man on a match? Same diff Dwight. Besides when you are roughing it you don't need a flashlight.

Personally I am prepping for 3 people for a year's worth of survival.

Do you know you are put on a terror watch list for buying lot's of foods for preparation?

Don't forget a lockpicking tool set. Everything you need to survive is out there. You just have to unlock it. :) When you know how to pick locks, the whole world opens up to you. :)

If you're concerned about unlawful detention during such an emergency, take the Urban Escape and Evasion course here:

onPoint Tactical LLC - Legendary Skills for Today's Professional

You'll learn how to escape handcuffs, rope, zip ties, and telephone line (most common restraint for home invasions).

The last day is a training exercise where they handcuff you in the back of a windowless serial killer van with other classmates and put hoods over your heads. Then they drop you off at some unknown location. You escape and they try to hunt you down. Most awesome experience ever!

I'm at a casino in Parker az on an iPad so I can't type much. But I'm def a prepper. Ive stock piled more than just a 10 day earthquake kit. I've stock piled over 20,000 rounds of ammo (42 cent avg) hundreds of gallons of rice in Mylar bags with desiccant, I've got like fucking 20 guns (at least). I've got gillie, nuclear, masks, pills, meds, ways to make meds, night optics, rechargeable batteries with solar setups.

I obviously have no faith in the government. I'd prep for more than just a few days

I don't know why you need 20 guns, but agree that preparing for more than a few days is a good idea. I have rice stored in 5 liter PETE water bottles with dry ice CO2 purge, seems to work very well. All that dehydrated food and MRE crap mentioned by some posters is a pretty poor source of food but I guess if you have minimal space and weight budget you can't do much else.

one word: photovoltaic

I will just stay put comfy in my house while you monkeys go running around campfires.

I'm prepared. I live in fucking Utah with LDS Mormans all over the place. These guys got entire cold storage basements filled with supplies.

What type of food are you buying?

I've been looking at Mountain House meals, which seem to have a decent shelf-life, but have also weighed buying MREs since those don't require boiling water.

just buy canned beans. got all the nutrition you need minus maybe a couple vitamins. get those from pills. doesnt taste fancy but do you honestly believe that survival meals taste anything like youd like something to taste? and theres a couple kinds of beans to choose from so you can eat something different with every meal!

i dont prepare for these silly scenarios, but if i had to, id buy a couple cans of red/white/green beans. the green ones are not nutrition superstars tho.

That's what I am fuckin talk 'bout there!
Now I am sure there is nothing new that you need to know.. but talkin is good SOOOOOOO...

Have you thought about gun caches? The ol' rifle in a PVC pipe buried in the backyard idea.. list of gps locations with food caches buried..

You know the first thing they will do is take everyone's guns ..

Dresden mentioned rice storage in mylar bags with dessicant. I started storing rice in PETE bottles with dry ice oxygen purge. Here's a pic:

ricestorage_med.jpg

What's kinda cool is that after a few days a partial vacuum forms (see bottle sort of collapsed at the top) giving a visual indication of a good air tight seal. If you're interested in the process I've got a blog post about it here Rice storage using dry ice to purge oxygen « geomark

I always keep enough food and water around. I have no ammo. nor any guns. however, i am confident that when push comes to shove, ill end up with guns and ammo aplenty.
