Is this some crazy adsense or what! I don't think I've ever seen a more devious implementation.

I'm really wondering if they contacted Google about it, though...

Do you have any examples of similar craziness ?

Is Google as strict about Yahoo with this kind of stuff?
Nope, I hardly hear any ruckus about it as long as you put a border around the pics next to your ads.

What I've read in the adsense rules it says that you may NOT make parts of your website look like the ads. And this is sure what all of these sites does.

I have read that people have been warned before, but google just tells them to put a one pixel border around the images.

The profilegamer integration is bad! haha. The owner should take the adsense ads out of the top and side. Just have the two "games" at the top be ads. He would for sure get more per click.

On one of my more popular sites the database went to shit and the content just stopped showing up. I had AdSense ads located above the content so now it's just the ads where the content should be. My earnings/CTR more than doubled! It's funny how a major error can result in more earnings. So now I'm gonna readjust my placement of the ads and content based on this new data.

Heres a tip for you guys, users like to click on things so why not make the only thing available to click on an ad?

What do you mean - I thought the whole point of the web is to provide valuable products, tools and content. Adsense is simply a way to aid in this process. Please dont make the web into a spam universe. Also dont go willy-nilly with ads, it just makes you look like you are trying to hard.

Funny shit! :D

Anyway...lotsa cool examples in this thread. Here's another one of my favorites: http://www.loseralliance.com/.

Regarding Google's stand on this, you should contact them with your specific example - they're pretty quick on answering adsense related questions and it's better to be safe than sorry.

But I'm guessing it's pretty much ok with them, as long as you don't go way overboard with it. Check the implementation on http://www.worth1000.com/ , for example - they're a big site (browse through their contests a bit, you'll have some good laughs) and I doubt they would risk placing images near ads without Google's approval.

i've seen direct comments from google about blending in ads and they seem to encourage it.

some listings shown are against the TOS for YPN that's for sure. the www.worth100 site is showing YPN ads for me, and showing pics next to their ads is a definite TOS with YPN.

google does seem to be much more permissible in terms of ad placement/blending in.

i understand once you are a 'premium' adsense publisher, you get even more flexibility to play with the adsense ads look and placement.
