Cigarette price hike

The PACT law is going to go into effect very soon and it is going to drastically impact the way tobacco is sold online. The law places new limitations on shipping tobacco products. I'm curious to hear people's thoughts about how this law will effect the sites that work in the tobacco niche. My company is based outside the US and we plan on continuing to sell and ship cigarettes to the US after this law goes into effect. Will American based websites be more willing to enter into affiliate partnerships now? It seems to me, that this law is going to create a vacuum and there will be a lot of potential for people with experience in this field to make money within an affiliate program.

Have you noticed due to the new Health Care legislation theyre not allowed to print LIGHTS on the packs now? The color of the boxes remains the same to let you know, but you won't find the word LIGHT on them moving forward. Talk about stupid.

Give it a few years till your laws get as mental as they are here in Australia... You're lucky to get change out of $20 these days. They just made a huge tax hike on cigs here to pay for the budget deficit.

I think the word 'light' was banned here about ten years ago... Abount 5 years ago they made it illegal to print the nicotine content of each cigarette. So if you're used to smoking 8mg then changing brands means finding someone who's smoked that brand for long enough to remember what strength it was or trying one of each (at $15-20 a pop) until you think it's about the right one...

The next step is going to plain brown packaging (except for the pictures of distended organs) so even the colours won't be any hint...

Fuck the anti-smoking lobby... I made a conscious decision years ago that I was happy to accept a few less years of life in exchange for what I get out of it... I don't smoke near people, I don't throw butts anywhere except a bin, I've paid far more in cig taxes than my medical's are likely to come to and even if I hadn't I have to pay 3 times as much for medical insurance so butt the fuck out of my life...

After the last tax hike I'm looking around for black market suppliers and I know I'm not the only one... I guarantee there'll be a thriving cigarette black market in Australia in the next few years...

I bought an ecig a while back. What a waste of money. It doesn't taste anything like fags, doesn't smoke like a cigarette and actually tastes more like the old smoke machines you get in the local discothèque.

you mustve gotten a shit brand, you should try something of higher quality like crown lions or something.. cough

smoke free for 58 days

A pack of cigarettes in Australia now cost about $18. Thats like $16 US. This is after the latest tax increase a month or two ago.

So I have to laugh at your $9 tragedy.

We've got ads on radio now that go "I smoke a second hand car every year"... "I smoke my child's childcare"... "Me and my wife smoke an overseas holiday" etc "If you won't quit for your health, quit for the money".

I would advise yo people to cut down smoking. We can easily save $16 US per day. Smoking is not good for health especially it damages 'sexual relationship' as well as it decreases sperm count too.

imho All behavioral taxes, whether or not you agree or disagree with the behavior, is the exact opposite of freedom.

That's logical, but non-smokers being forced to pay for smoker health care isn't exactly freedom in that sense either. :rasta:

So make the cigarette company shareholders pay for it reduced sales...

Oh, wait, maybe we should also pass a law that gives a subsidy to cigarette company shareholders.

But then it isn't exactly freedom to make those who don't hold shares in cigarette companies pay for the losses incurred.

So then maybe we could pass another law that takes from people who consume public health care and gives it to the people who were taxes to pay for cigarette companies shares.

Ah shit, now we have to fix a dozen more problems.

QUIT INTERVENING IN THE ECONOMY.

wow... you're awesome

3.5% of cancer deaths worldwide are attributable to alcohol drinking.

compared to:

Of the 514,000 cancer deaths expected to occur this year in the United States, slightly over 164,000, or nearly one-third, are directly linked to cigarette smoking.

3.5% vs 30%... hmmm

So just add up deaths from liver failure and drunk driving - I'm sure it evens out. ;)

Everyone here knows the number one killer in the US is heart disease, and the things I mentioned - salt, sugar, fats, all contribute to that (yes, alcohol and tobacco as well). So in the name of health care or whatever the point people are trying to make is, I guess we should tax all those things.

I understand the logic of everyone saying "Hey, they're poisoning themselves and we have to pay when they go on Medicare," but try thinking a little more about it. If we were taxed for everything that was "unhealthy," you'd be spending 200% more every time you went out on Friday night.

Unless you're a fruity vegan who bikes to your drum circles.:rasta:

Says the person who supports public healthcare.

QUIT INTERVENING IN THE ECONOMY.

1. taxes on smokers
2. refusing health care for smokers

Without one of the above, how can the public stop sharing the health care costs? Some insurance plans now do make them pay higher premiums, but it's the lower incomes that are more likely to smoke.
