I always read posts of people buying domain for 5bucks or 2 bucks from Godady, I reckon they use some sort of coupons, does anyone know where to get those or where to watch out for announcements of domain name discount sales?

Not sure if this is what you wanted but whenever I buy domains at Godaddy, I use the coupon code SAVENOW and it takes 10% off of my order no matter how big or small the order is.

Thanks jon, Ill make a note of it.

I *think* godaddy gives you really cheap domains if you buy hosting packaged with it. I got my first hosting package with godaddy, but its so limited I switched pretty quickly. Its cheap hosting, and you get what you pay for.

Thanks as well for the coupon code heads up as well, I usually register my domains with godaddy.

1and1 has .coms for $5.99 with free privacy protection. Their admin interface has no bulk functions though.

I do prefer a domain-seller to have a wide array of options when it comes to setting up sites and connecting dns and stuff. I really wasted time on emailing and waiting them to set those dns adresses proparly.

1and1.com lets you do that, but you can't do in in bulk.

If you buy from GoDaddy you get on their email list, that's where they send out a lot of good deals ever so often. I have so many domains at this point that me and my pal Mark bought a reseller account through GoDaddy mainly so we could buy from ourselves at discounted rates. We get domains for around $7 or so each now any time we want them.

Also watch Yahoo Small business section for $2.99 deals. I took advantage of a bunch of those at one point.

Hmm guess I shouldnt have disabled emails from godaddy.

Do you guys think it's a hassle buying domains at a different site than where you host it?

The code "DIGG" also gives 10% off, or it did the last time I bought a domain, which was a week or so ago.

No, but some domain registrars make it very difficult to connect the domain to another host, always check there is some sort of panel to do that yourself.

It doesn't have to be a hassle if you choose a good registar...I'd buy domains from my host if they had the options I want, and since Dreamhost doesn't offer privacy protection, I have to look elsewhere.

Titus is correct. With Godaddy, if you buy anything that isn't a domain name, along with your domain name purchase, then it's $1.99 per year for the registration.

I'm not sure if you can couple this with the SAVENOW coupon. :p
