Building New Computer -- Troubles...

Okay Xproto I did everything you said and still no post screen.

While doing this when I was pulling the heatsink/fan off the processor, the processor came off with it, does this mean the processor was damaged for sure? Because I didn't lift up that pin and it still came up because the thermal paste stuck the two together so toughly. So the processor came off the mobo with the pin still down, or atleast I think, it happened so fast.

But anyway, after I got yet another no signal from my fucking new computer I put in my regular PCI graphics card again, the one I'm using now, and it didn't work either so it can't be the graphics card. This means that it can only be the motherboard, I don't see what else the problem could be, but honestly what are the odds of two bad mobos!?! Could I have damaged the mobo while removing the processor perhaps? Even if I did you'd still think I'd get a fucking post screen dammit!

So yeah I don't want to pay $15 for shipping it back to Newegg again, because then I've paid like more than half the price of the fucking mobo in shipping! So I'm going to call ASUS tomorrow and see what they have to tell me and if they don't help I'm going to bitch Newegg out and demand that they pay the shipping this time and maybe even demand they pay for the first shipping back price as well, because of all the shit I've gone through with this fucking thing.

Essentially I just want to play some Counter-Strike: Source, is that really too much to ask!?! Plus I want to give this computer to my girlfriend so she's not hassling me to use it all the time so she can facebook up a storm or write emails or some shit like that. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had building a computer and I thought it would be the easiest because I've done it so many times before.

I don't know what I'm asking for really, I think I'm just ranting, but any ideas would nonetheless be appreciated.

Have a good day/night/morning/afternoon/or whatever =P

I've gotten a bad motherboard before... same thing... wouldn't post. I'm pretty sure it was an ASUS too, about 2 years ago.

Your CPU should be fine, I've done that before with no problems afterwards.

Did you make sure your power supply was set at 115V (115v if you live in the US)? Otherwise, it sounds like another bad mainboard.

A few things to check...as I have ran into similar things in the past.

1. Make sure there are no extra screws/bolts on your case that don't line up with any screw holes in the motherboard and could be touching the bottom of the motherboard. If any piece of metal is touching the motherboard other than on the screw holes (hehe) it could fuck with it. (You can always pull the motherboard out of the case and try to boot it up.)

2. When you turn it on are you getting any beeps? If so how many?

3. Do you have 2 seperate plugs from your power supply to your motherboard?

Xrproto: Awesome that's a huge relief! I was worried about my precious new dual-core. Also, yes my power supply is set at 115v.

1) No that's not the problem I made sure of that both times, I'm not a newb =P

2) No beeps at all.

3) I have one main connection to my mobo from my power supply, but I know my mobo and my graphics card are getting power so that can't be it anyway.

If I call ASUS and it is indeed another bad mobo Newegg is gonna have some bitching to deal with.

Are all fans working? Maybe over heating otherwise get a new new mainboard and start bitching to Newegg :p

Yeah all four case fans are functioning fine as are the ones on the processor and the graphics card, plus my case has a temperature gauge and it doesn't have time to overheat.

Bitch hard. :p

I've built systems where the heatsink/fan on the CPU wasn't big enough which instantly over heated it and nothing would post. After swaping out the heatsink for a bigger one I had no problems.

Get your power supply tested. Take it into a computer shop and they have these little psu testers where you plug in all the connectors and it'll let you know if its good. Built a new computer last year and everything powered up, with fans and hds spinning, but no post. Even exchanged the motherboard and had narrowed it down to either the cpu or the power supply. Took the whole thing into Frys and had them test the power supply and turned out that was the problem.

It was the fucking power supply the whole time! Next time I'll be sure to go with an Antec power supply from the get go, christ that was ridiculous!

I love this computer, time for Counter-Strike: Source, w00t!

Try reseating your processor.. (taking it off, and putting it back on)

I installed a new harddrive a few days ago, and when I turned on my computer all the power came on, but nothing else happened. I didn't post and my monitor never received a signal. After reseating my processor, it all worked fine! Though, I think my proc is on its way out. I used to have it overclocked and there isn't really anything left of the thermal glue.. [shrug]

edit:
I'm worseless for not reading the whole thread...

That's it pjleonhardt, -rep for that!
Still considering a ban.

PS: Yeah, I am kidding.
