Breast Cancer Awareness

Not getting in on this argument...but..

The pink equipment was all auctioned off after the game, as game worn items.

Hence, donations flooded in as men simply cannot resist owning something with another man's sweat all over it.

Haha, true. I forgot about that. I'm sure that last $50,000 will finally put an end to breast cancer.

Women go through an entirely different experience.

Someone in my family has gone through breast cancer. She was told over and over by the healthcare community how the rest of her life will be defined by her breast cancer, even though she survived it. She looked for books, support groups, and spent a lot of time with other women who had survived breast cancer. Was even encouraged to speak to women who were going through it.

Women make a bigger deal of breast cancer than men make of prostate cancer, even though the mortality rates are similar.

Qft. I always found support groups to be a joke.

I'm not against the raising of money for causes like this, but what does bother me is that breast cancer always seems to take precedence over other cancers which are equally if not more devastating. I lost 3 members of my family to cancer last year, none of which were breast cancer. Colon cancer, lung cancer and a rare blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. It pisses me off that you rarely if ever hear much about what's being done for these cancers.

Penn & Teller did a bullshit episode on breast cancer and made that exact point. We don't need more 'awareness' of breast cancer, but it's a good way for corps to look like a good citizen and be a bit edgy at the same time.

Anyone else sick of Breast Cancer Awareness already? All this shit with the NFL, pink fucking equipment? Really? One banner or something on the field is enough.

Then every day at work, we have a new breast cancer awareness event. I am fucking sick of it. Not to mention the charity run/walk that will back up traffic this week.

After years and years of promoting awareness, I think women have gotten the message already. Why can't we just have a breast cancer awareness DAY?

Look, I love titties as much as the next guy. Anything we can do to protect them, I'm all for it. But a month of this shit is ridiculous.

Where is prostate cancer awareness month? Everyone should wear brown in April or something.

Fucking A!

I hate the fact that October has become synonymous with cancer instead of Halloween.

I hate that faggot Goodell making football players wear pink so he can feel all good about himself.

I hate that people are so unbelievably gullible to think that all this awareness means shit and actually does something. Those evil fucks at Big Pharma would never allow a cure to get to the public even if they actually had one.

I'm all for raising money to give to victims but limit it to walkathons or buying shit at the store from companies which want to donate. But for the love of God...stop calling it Breast Cancer Month!

How to Prevent Breast Cancer

Step 1: Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
Step 2: Exercise.

Go buy any female you care about a box of fruit and some running shoes instead of donating to these shitty charities. I wouldn't be so bitter if they put more of it into education. I pulled up the numbers in another cancer thread. I'd do it again but I'm afraid I might vomit. Trillions of dollars wasted and they're still using the same "treatments" they used 40 years ago.

Oh and before anyone jumps on my nuts about "genetics" and other none sense let me quote Nutrition and Breast Cancer Risk Reduction .

Diet is thought to be partly responsible for about 30% to 40% of all cancers. But diet alone is unlikely to be the "cause" or "cure" of cancer. Although more research needs to be done on diet and breast cancer, findings suggest that physical activity, a healthy diet (particularly one low in fat and high in vegetables and fiber), and a healthy weight can help reduce the risk of breast cancer or the cancer coming back.

I'm sure that's a conservative number based on limited research too.

So what the fuck are they researching exactly? How can you cure something that is primarily caused by diet and lifestyle factors? If you give a fat guy a liposuction and he heads over to McDonald's right after what do you think is going to happen?

Agreed. Not to mention we don't really see what they do with the money. Unless I'm missing something. I'd rather my money go straight to the pockets of survivors to help pay for treatment.

You can easily find the details of where donations go for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (big link that says See Your Impact).

Come on, ballers - support me walking in it next week.

2012: Avon Walk for Breast Cancer: New York: Shawn Collins - Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

"Your support funds research to find a cure or prevention, as well as programs that enable all patients to access quality care. A key priority is the medically underserved, including low-income, elderly, and minority individuals."

I commend the NFL for wearing pink for breast cancer awareness. Most companies just put "a banner or something" and call it a day. The message isn't just about getting women aware, its also about soliciting donations for cure etc.

Not sure about your city but where I'm from, the charity run/walks raise millions of dollars for the cause. If it has to inconvenience a couple of whiny sob's to happen, well thats just par for the course.

You're adorable.

Dude, you're a bro and all but you clearly have absolutely no idea about the pathophysiology of the common breast cancers and are well out of your league here.

Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus is certainly something you can get on your diet/exercise/pleasebeaveganlikeme soapbox about, but until you learn about how breast cancers develop please don't make yourself look this stupid again.

Quoting an incredibly tiny "non-profit" (About Us) which doesn't even list its "board of directors" and takes in around $700k a year in donations primarily by using its content-writer-developed website and EMD makes you look as foolish as the claims you made in your post.

Maybe do a bit more research before you try to get into a topic like this. Here, this should start you off pretty easy: Estrogen receptor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and you can work your way outwards until you reach inception.

So you call a breast cancer charity a poor source of information about cancer and then you tell me to read Wikipedia? Not sure if serious.

I'd like to argue your point but you haven't made one, just told me to read some random Wiki article. I don't need to know the pathophysiology to know that diet and lifestyle (as well as environment) play a huge role and one we should focus on mostly.

actually, you absolutely need to know the pathophysiology to make that claim.

No I don't. Just like I don't need to know the pathophysiology of obesity to know that eating 24 big mac combos every day is going to make you fat.

You're right.

What he should have linked to was this systematic meta-analysis from that esteemed organ of oncological excellence, the Daily Mail:

The sad thing is that the 'awareness' on breast cancer has made thousands of women get unneeded surgery and have their breast(s) removed because of benign growths. Doctors readily admit this now, not to mention that the chemo and surgery itself is very toxic and carciogenic.

I wish we could get the same awareness on everyday pollutants in the air, food and water supply. In most big cities, walking around and breathing the air is more toxic than smoking a pack a day. This is particularly true for cities with heavy industry nearby.
