Paul Gibson, an alternate parent representative on the School Governance Council, said that information presented at council meetings suggests that the science labs were largely classes for white students. He said the decision to consider cutting the labs in order to redirect resources to underperforming students was virtually unanimous.

I at first thought this was Berkeley HS in South Carolina, and I wasn't surprised. They cut their band program and arts programs completely so it wouldn't surprise me if this came next.
 
A lot of schools are cutting programs, but cutting them because they claim only white students take the classes and do well is idiotic as the classes are available equally to everyone who qualifies academically. The senior Science faculty member even said she has multiple black people in her AP science classes.

This is a fucking joke. It's an indication of how sick the American society is when it is so quick to infer racial inferiority whereas there are much stronger correlations between socioeconomic positions and academic performance.

But I suppose blaming race is much easier than realizing how fucked up your society is. I'm not arguing that people aren't equal, I'm arguing that race has little to do with it.
 
It's not race to blame, it's the cultures that go along with race. The parents of *most* blacks/latinos do not raise their children with education in mind. That's why Bill Cosby is out there telling em' like it is.
 
This situation has an easy fix for the elite left (the ones making these decisions).
Follow the idealology of their heros Mao, Lenin and the like. Move these under achievers out of the schools and force them to pick up trash, scoop up dog shit from the streets etc.

Fixed! The kids that want and can learn will flourish with less distraction and more advanced classroom environments. The kids that can't or won't learn will have a job and be out of the system.

That's a *pretty* dumb thing to say. But I guess you're right, my friend's dad raised my best friend to be slingin yay by the corner at 5am (the sad thing is that you probably belive this).

Idiot, think economic class first THEN culture. Like I said, there's a stronger correlation between income bracket and crime than between culture and crime.

This is also assuming that african american culture is homogeneous, another absurd statement.

eh... sucks, but won't really change much. How many people can honestly say that they got much out of high school anyways? I didn't learn ANYTHING until I got to college. and this is coming from a guy who never got a C in HS.

If anything, these students are missing out on an opportunity to make more brain synapses by taking science classes.

all in all, situation still is ridiculous tho.

My statement was a bit too loose.

When I said "The parents of *most* blacks/latinos do not raise their children with education in mind.", I wasn't inferring culture alone was the sole reason for this, I agree the basis of it comes from income disparities. But that income disparity does influence culture, which is what I was getting at in lesser words.

But I can guarantee you, if you gave every poor family a million dollars, you would not see much of a change in behavior when it comes to things like education / values.

I think Hawking has done more to popularize it, as well as Einstein. I know the correlation, but he's still a douchebag. Unless you're talking about "Contact" for popularization specifically, but I really don't think he did as much as some others.
