Apple iMac 27, to buy or not to buy?

iMacs monitors are overpriced shit as well.. You can get a 120hz 24" or 27" for 399/499. iMac monitors are what.. 70hz at best? Granted you can only get 120hz in 1920x1080 max atm for 24" and 27" (I got the 24", 27" at that res would be weird). I recently built a i7-2600k, 8gb ram, 128gb SSD and 2 weeks ago added a GTX 580 and the 120hz monitor (BF3 nigga! good luck running that on an imac).. spent like $1500 or so all up and it's not top top of the line but it's almost there.

You're going to spend $1000 more and you'll only have a fucking i5? I owned an apple laptop but I sold it.. biggest purchasing mistake ever. I bought into the faggotry but once I realised it what a faggot I had turned into, I went back to the PC).
Computer Monitors are not TVs. Don't bring 120hz into the discusstion when discussing monitors.

Macmall has 27" i7 iMacs for $1500 for the last generation, im snagging one in the next couple weeks. Mac<PC

The iMac display is fucking scenic, I can't wait until I get one. Having been a macbook user for about a month even looking at a windows interface disgusts my snobby mac palette.

First off. I hate comparisons of a computer monitor vs TV. The poster is asking about a computer monitor. TV displays DO server a completely different use. People don't normally sit less than half a meter or less from a TV unless your 12 years old.

Now, alot can be said about "a Mac is really being a computer..." (had to get that in)

Apple has always used great displays. Even when their hardware elsewhere was horrid.

IPS vs PVA, Both are miles better than TN. Look at a laptop...

Both are good. IPS in a strict sense is better than PVA, But there are lots of types of PVA.

But you get what you pay for. That "24 inch bingo" display that is 80 USD is probably going to suck. Though if you have always had cheapo displays you might not notice.

A display is like fine wine. Once you have had the best, it is hard to go back.

I miss good "*rinitron" tubes. Mitsu and Sony had the best.

If you don't want to buy a MAC dispaly, Dell sells some very decent PVA and IPS displays. Sure, if you absolutely have to have color, the NEC/Mitsu are king. But they will make you take a night job to pay for them.

Definitely a sick machine. I had the 3.4GHz one and I sold it because it was more than I needed.

I'd recommend checking out the refurbished models to get the best deal. Apple refurbs are pretty much the same as buying it new and you can get some great deals.

I'd look at this one Refurbished iMac 27-inch 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 - Apple Store (U.S.) Basically the top of the line version. Only thing missing is the 2GB video card and the additional internal HD, but you can just use an external HD for each if you need extra storage.

27" 3.4GHz with 256GB SSD. The SSD really makes a huge difference.

Pop some Crucial memory in that thing for cheap. It's like $80 to upgrade it to 16GB (why the fuck not?).

What's better - a refurb from apple or a last generation from macmall??

I am not an Apple fanboy, but the 27" Apple monitor is an IPS panel with a native resolution of 2560x1440. Nobody offers that for $399/$499 as far as I am aware.

I was going to say get the dell 2711 which I just bought for $560 delivered here in Australia... but HOLY FUCK CAKES! It sells for $999 in the US.

DELL Dell UltraSharp U2711 27-inch Widescreen Monitor with PremierColor : Computer Components | Dell

Unless I'm looking at the wrong page, I think I just found the very first item in the universe that costs less in Australia. I was assuming if I paid $560, it has to be only worth around $350US.

Anyway, never owned a mac computer but I've owned 2 iPhones and that was enough to keep me well away from macs for now.

Hi guys,

I need to buy a new computer, and really can't decide if the iMac is what i need. I'm interested in the Apple iMac 27-inch 2.8GHz quad-core i5 witch is 1770 euro here ( 2400$ ).

Anybody that own or used iMac, please tell me the positive sides, and also the negative.

Is it worth the money, or should i buy a desktop PC?

Definitely go for it.

This machine is amazing and the design wonderful.

However I put on it windows 7 cause my software do not run under it.

Buy that! It's great. Some peasants hate on mac's because they can't afford them, saying they suck. They are actually way better than Window's PCs. I suggest you invest in one.

I don't disagree with this and if I could justify owning a mac for work and a beastly PC for the rare video game session, I'd own both.

They are wonderfully built. The OS is spectacular. The screens are splendid. All this talk thought about productivity and "not understanding" is bullshit though.

I've got a wireless keyboard and mouse and all my other cables are hidden just fine...the difference at this point is that my computer is faster and has a slightly more annoying OS.

Yea PC's are great for gaming & software development/programming. Mac's are better for everything else though, that average people use computers for.

Don't buy it..
You will not be able to work on it, coz most of the time you will be drooling over it

Oh Fuck it.. Buy it..
As long as you can afford it, you won't regret it.

Disregard the Jelly Haters

The only reason to still own a PC is gaming or some specialized app.

I have a 27" Apple Cinema Display and a 30" Dell Ultrasharp. Both are extremely nice monitors but the color range, richness, brightness on the Mac Display kill the Dell. The Dell is so nice, but when you set it next to the Mac it looks like a $199 laptop display in comparison. You can compare resolutions, hertz, or anything else you want but when you sit down and use an Apple display all that shit goes out the window, you can visually see it's a better monitor all the way around no matter what some spec sheet tells you.

The Apple screens are the bee's knees for sure.
