On the firing line
I can't help it. I love firearms. Shooting, cleaning, changing shit on them.

Since the last thread I went and got my 45. Yeah, I know, I said I probably won't get one blah blah blah. That was just me trying to rationalize why I didn't need another gun....but I failed talking myself out of it. I love the 1911, and can't stay away from it.

So, here is my Kimber II with custom grips from Sarge's Grips and Meprolight Night Sights that I installed a couple weeks ago.

Sarge's grips fit like a glove! The guys at the range were mucho impressed. That's the first thing everybody says that sees them. "Look at the fit! I've never seen grips fit that nice" Treat yourself to some, you'll thank me.

These grips are Amboyna Burl. I liked them so much, I got my dad a set for Father's Day. Sent him some Pomelle Red Bubinga grips (similar to these) for his Springfield Mil-Spec. All the guys in his SASS club are jealous. ;)

The tritium sights are great! The white helps for daylight shooting and in low light the tritium really makes sight acquisition easy.

Next on my list is a short trigger. Mostly for comfort. All Kimbers come with long triggers from the factory. I picked up a true Colt 1911 the other day, and the short trigger is so much nicer.

Then probably new sear, disconnect and springs from Ed Brown or Wilson Combat. The stock trigger is pretty crisp, but I like to tinker.

For me, I enjoy firearms because they are truly all about the mechanics of the machine. You can tweak them to what you want out of them, and that tweaking is half the fun. Cleaning and shooting make up the other half.

Speaking of cleaning (lube) ... this stuff: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/TW25B-Grease-0-5-Reclosable-Syringe/dp/B000UTOVX8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312047811&sr=8-2"]Amazon.com: TW25B Grease 0.5 oz Reclosable Syringe: Sports & Outdoors[/ame] is FANTASTIC! The syringe gives you a super fine line of grease exactly where you want it. No mess, and keeps things nice and smooth.

Anybody here like to "smith" their own weapon? What have you done? Any suggestions for 1911 mods? I'm open to anything.

Fine gun. Nice looking grips but, they look slippery, you know; for like a real life and death self-defense situation.

kimbers are nice ... my dad almost got one a couple times. we have like 30+ guns but no 1911s ... maybe i should get one? haha

You def should. They are versatile as hell you can pretty much do what you want, & can mod the shit out of them whats not to love

i alwasy wanted my first gun i bought to be a USP, tac flashlight, and lasergrips, ... and a silencer mmmmmmmmm

MGS style

Thanks guys! Yes, I will admit the grips can be a little slick if your hands get sweaty, but it hasn't presented any issues yet that I've noticed. If this was to be a strictly tactical piece, I would have left the black rubber grips on it. The stock grips are very comfortable, but boring. :)

@leadsupplier = add a 1911 to your collection. You will not regret it. Here's one you may like: Kimber America | Pro TLE II / RL II Got the tac rail for your light or laser, 4 inch barrel for easier concealment and night sights. All you need is a threaded barrel and suppressor (add about $250 for the barrel and $600 for the suppressor + $200 for the tax stamp). Plus, the Kimber is cheaper than the HK USP.

Wow amazing looking gun! I want a 1911 so bad, but totally not in the budget right now. Hopefully in a year or two I'll have my hands on something as nice as that.

Anybody that wants a 1911, but doesn't think they can afford one should check this out:

Rock Island Armory GI M1911A1 Mil Spec .45 $385.00 SHIPS FREE

Rock Island Armory. Actually a very good gun. Made by Armscor in the Philipines (I think). Then you can upgrade as you wish with Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer parts. I'm actually considering doing this myself. $385 to start gives you a ton of room to mod it to hell and back.

Kimbers are the shit! Haven't owned one, yet, but a friend preached by them. They're on my list to buy, but I have a few other guns I want first. Benelli and AK, in that order.

Yeah, the RIA guns are actually not bad. They are true mil spec since they patterned their machine equipment from original schematics that the WWII GI 1911s were built with.
I keep saying I'll get one for a truck gun, but I have enough guns right now that I don't even have time to shoot them all.

Those grips look great, and Sarge is a cool guy. I don't have as much time for gun forums lately, but I think he used to hang out on 1911forum.

Kimbers look nice, never tried one, though. Of course, personally I think the Dan Wesson 1911's are a really good bang for your buck since they are semi-custom at about half the price or less of something like the Ed Brown.
