I think the most vivid point of this post is how fucked up Google's price-discounting (err gauging) mechanism is. The OP would not get any impressions had he not bid $1.85 in the beginning. So basically, to even get into the game, Google gives you a nice initial rapeage. Otherwise it just won't ever give you any impressions. No wonder I wasnt able to get impressions bidding reasonably on content network heh........

Is this really the way that CPM works on google?

he was using the CPC not CPM i think. but i assume they both work the same, inital bids are high to get you in the game.

Quick newbie question: where on adwords can I have Google show me sites relevant to my terms and how do I edit them like you did?

Thanks.

Complete newb here. Just trying to understand all this.

visits-advertiserwebsite-com site:quantcast.com

Im trying this but get nothing back. Am i doing it correctly?

example: visits.fling.com site:quantcast.com

Cheers for the share btw

no QS, just CTR

Are you sure?
Because i'm reading other information:

For calculating a keyword-targeted ad's eligibility to appear on a particular content site, as well as the ad's position on that site:
  • The ad's past performance on this and similar sites
  • The relevance of the ads and keywords in the ad group to the site
  • The quality of your landing page
  • Other relevance factors
For determining if a placement-targeted ad will appear on a particular site:
  • The quality of your landing page
It looks to me that QS is also applied to Site Placement ads?

Looking at all those suggestions by google and comparing them to my campaign, it's a lot more obvious now why it's doing so well.

I get rid of sites that flop pretty quickly, the adwords campaign is tight, and like I mentioned, the relevance of the ads to the target I'm focused on is very strong.

Guess I should read the documentation...

Anyways, to the guys asking about the quantcast sites, all you have to do is go to google and type in:

Code:
visits-advertiserwebsite-com site:quantcast.com

This will search for one of the phrases that explains where traffic from the site you're researching typically goes.

You're right, I was wrong. I learned something tonight, but I am not sure if I believe it (at least not that it has the impact that QS has on search ads). I have been running on average $250/day through Adwords placements on a *CPM* model for over a year. I've always built my placement targeted ads believing if my CPM exceeds that of the other ads being displayed via the content network, mine will show - and it'll usually show in the "expanded box" where my ad fills the whole adsense block (having your ad expanded is CRUCIAL otherwise I have a skyhigh CPM $ and a fraction of the clicks). Many of my placements are also direct linked to the offers which wouldn't fly with a typical search ad. Not worrying about QS and worrying about CPM $$ has always served me well with placement targetting. Different game if you are doing CPC placements I guess. Just never had much luck getting getting my CPC placements to actually start showing up, and I've never had one put in an expanded text box.
