Business or contract work?

On the first day of your experiment, Nietzsche, you mention you actually setup a business with a federal tax ID. I was wondering if (a) people thought this was necessary and (b) if it isn't, is it a good idea to do so anyway?

getting the dba with your fed tax is (which is your ssn for sole prop) is necessary for business bank account. unless you are really good with records and figure out a good system, it's probably better not to mix funds between personal and business altho you can.

2008 Election Debate

I have got my basic site going for my capaign site. Check it out and let me know what you think. The hits so far for the site have been good all week with steady increase. some things I am working on for the site is:

  • Privacy Policy - I am in the process of making one and it will be up soon.
  • Logos - Iam getting a set of logos done now that will be ready later this week.
  • About page - contact info, blah... blah...
  • Maybe a better RSS Reader that I can customize.
So I have some work to do still. But I am open to ideas from others. This week the site has made a couple dallors. I am looking to get that as high as I can. I am now looking to give it a more proffessional look with some graphics and more visits. With google cpc the keywords bids are .50 mostly. Good or Bad? or should I stick to others for now...

Is your main goal to monetize this site with Adsense? If so, I would strongly consider changing some things around. First of all, move your adblocks up and more to the left of the page. Second, work on blending them more with the content. This includes changing the style of your body text font, spacing, etc. Use CCS styling for this. With some simple CSS, you can make the text look just like the text of Adsense ads.

Test also what sort of ads show up in your adblocks. Are they related and potentially interesting to people looking for election / political info? If not, try making Adsense pull ads that could be more interesting to the visitors.

Just a tip. ;)
 
- Work on your color scheme. Most of your site looks like you want to use blue, red and white (which fits with the theme), but in the sidebars I also see bright green and yellow. get rid of those.

- Change the main font to sans serif (2 reasons: a) blend better with ads, b) better readability)

- Put an ad on top left. Maybe move the "rock the vote" thing to the top of the sidebar. As election draws near, also enable video and picture ads.

- Maybe iframe the news instead of letting the people hop to another page.

- Polls might work quite well for a page like this.

Yup, he stopped after 5 days. Those kind of threads or blogs with this topic never work for some reason. Shame, would be pretty interesting if someone would actually keep on posting.
 
I quit the same time all the drama hit and most decent people left this forum.

I've pretty much spent the time since I started reworking my tools, templates, etc. I'm just now starting to look for niches seriously.

I've been away from the forum for a while (busy busy), can you link me to the event/thread that caused decent people to run away? Or are you talking about the time some dude claimed he was offering a Zillion dollar for wickedfire.
 
Well if it matters or if anybody cares...I'll pick up the slack here.. and report my progress. I'm working on this everyday. I got my 7Search approved recently and I signed up for google analytics...I'm doing my best to sign up for a lot of other companies besides google adsense because I'd figure while I may not earn a lot of money with other companies while I am learning and fumbling around I won't be risking losing my adsense account before I get it right

So far I'm signed with chitika, adbrite, adsense and a few others. I'll probably sign with all of them in due time. While arb 2.0 is interesting what I'm building might be considered 3.0 or 7.0 given the fact that I'm a total new booty that may seem weird but I'm building in preparation of the house cleaning that is coming in the future.

I suggest to everybody to join/read whatever blackhat info/forum you can. I have not been admitted to any yet but I do read any info they make available. I have domain names in the XXX range but a a lot of them are gambling related. I don't want to buy any more names so I'm going to have to pick from what I have ...

I can make templates no problem but I have become somewhat addicted to the wordpress script because I have a few "regular" sites that use it . That has been my biggest hurdle in using other scripts.

Is there a content generator that integrates with wordpress ? That would be righteous!! I'm reaading some books too... oh quick question

Perl or PHP ? The languages seem to overlap but is one bettter than the other for this or are both mandatory?

I'll post again tommorrow or if I have any questions...

Because like to write I really want to incorporate my own content, plus the topics i cover i'm actually interested in. I figure across 10 niches I can write XXXX articles myself which should help eliminate any penalties
 
Hey Lee, you might want to make your own thread for this purpose because this one has died out.

-there is this wordpress fork or something that works as a content generator (scraper really), actually I received this script from the owner of this forum as a prize. Unfortunately the script sucked, it was very picky with feeds, most of the feeds broke the whole thing. You might want to dig into RSSGM, it has more of a learning curve but it's worth the effort. It also supports more ways of getting content, and mixing it up.

In these scripts you'll be using PHP not PERL.

Maybe I'm wrong but judging from your post your experience with code would make it pretty hard for you to set up scraper/generator sites. I would recommend taking a step back, and setting up regular static sort of sites for 7search arbi.
