NEW Facebook Ads

So I read this somewhere and wanted to make sure it's correct: Keyword targeting = cheaper clicks?

I ask because the bid suggestion always stays the same regardless of whether you enter KWs or not (only the # of users goes down), so I haven't been targeting keywords at all and figured that, if anything, it just increases your CTR.

But the bid suggestion and actual CPC you pay are always different. With keyword targeting, does the actual CPC decrease even if the bid suggestion doesn't? If so, is this how everyone is getting dirt-cheap (< 0.20) domestic clicks?

Pardon the newb question, but I feel like I've missed the boat somewhere.

KW = better targeting = better CTR = lower CPC. That and CPM are how to drive down CPC, although CPC across the board has been steadily rising as more and more affiliates flood FB pushing dating, etc.

i found the KW targeting raises my bids because you end up getting a less overall audience most time.

I use to bid on 35+ females and I dont remember what the audience total was, but suggested was high .55 cpc range. Whenever I would narrow down that audience by KW or location and I got the audience down to like 500k or 1mill.. even as low as 50k.. the suggested would always shoot up to like .75 cpc range

I know this means that someone else is bidding in my same demo and is doing well and that my ad has to do as good or better to then get lower bids as the day goes one, but initially the bid would be higher on the initial run cause of this.

That's strange because my bid suggestions never ever change, no matter how many KWs I put in, or if I put any in at all. I'm currently trying a campaign with KW targeting, so I'll see how it goes.

Btw, domestic approval time is boss right now. However, my int'l ads have been sitting for 7+ hours...

Bidding on keywords is going to considerably lower the amount of viewers. If you are bidding CPM, and you have a good CTR, your average CPM should be much lower than your bid / suggested bid.

That makes sense, thanks. Did a quick CPC run with KWs and got about 0.3 CTR, switched it over to CPM and just waiting for the impressions now.

Converted an ad which had 0.42 CTR from CPC to CPM, and the CPM ad is getting five times less CTR, at 0.08. Exact same ad. What gives?

could be a few things. if you just used the same exact ad after running it for a couple days, people may have banner blindness. try modifying your ad copy/images. could also be timing. right now isnt working as well as a different time yesterday.

the only way to tell is to split test a new ad. split test means run two ad variations AT THE SAME TIME.

hope this helps.

Started the ad on CPC about two hours ago, saw that it was doing great and switched it to CPM soon after. I ran both at the same time and the CPC ad continued to do well, while the CPM ad flopped.

i notice ill have ads (large demos) running and they'll start out with a high CTR then throughout the day, the CTR will continue to drop. My theory is i'm bidding too high, or have too many ads running in that particular campaign which are getting viewed too many times by the same people, thus lowering the CTR. any other thoughts?

Here's how it works:

The higher your spending, the faster the CTR will drop and vice versa.

The bigger your demo, the slower the CTR will drop and vice versa.

When you're bidding higher than the suggestion bid, then your ad is most likely being shown on every refresh. When it's first shown, the interested users will click on your ad, so the ctr is going up. But the longer the ad is running, the more and more it's shown to the non-interested users, thus bringing down your ctr after some time.

So in essence, if the more generally attractive your offer is, the longer it will keep it's high ctr on a large demo with a big CPC. The generally less attractive your offer is, the quicker that CTR will drop.

well thats where my theory of having a ton of ads receiving less impressions or just a few with a decent amount of impressions over any ads receiving a ton of impressions on the high sugg bid scale plays in. I'd rather slowly burn at a demo and milk the users rather than blow it up in 1-3 days. Not sure how you guys like to do it but it seems to work. FB only has so much traffic you can hit per day without bombing campaigns

My Create an Ad page has been in this format for the past couple days:

It's really fucking annoying. I can't get the fbadmanager to work.

That's crazy. I wonder if they suspect you're using Ads Manager and did this to fuck with you.

I checked one of my friend's account that I help out sometimes, and he has the same shit. Maybe you are right, and they linked both our accounts by IP, and saw that I'm spitting x,xxx ads a day. But fuck, this is hurting my pockets.
