Canada... eh!
Seeing as we have people from all over the world, I thought it would be interesting to have a culture thread. Share some interesting pieces history of what made you who you are today. :)

Looks like I'll have to start,

I'm Acadian and I talk Chiac("Chiac is a dialect of Acadian French heavily mixed and structured with English.") I sound exactly as that reads, French people cannot understand us unless we really force ourselves to think of the proper words(half the time we don't know them because we don't use them and have little exposure to proper French)

Acadians for the most part got deported beginning in 1755 to Louisiana, our biggest achievement is probably not being wiped out by the British.. I come from a small population that either hid or was deep in the woods and repopulated the lands that make up the people of New-Brunswick (and other maritime regions). We were mostly well-to-do farmers and laborers back then.

I currently reside in the province of New-Brunswick that's located here, with many of the deported Acadians living in Louisiana still being there (known as "Cajuns")

A relatively new band came out and should give you a good idea of what we speak like, I heard these guys for the first time this morning and was laughing out loud at how familiar it sounds. (it's techno/rap)

I don't really know what I had in mind when I made this thread, but the above is what popped into mind for me...I'm sure a lot of you have a lot more then me to talk about, talk about anything - famous people, history, great feats of engineering/invention/science, war or discovery, let's make this an interesting thread. Teach us your heritage!

I heard the word "Cajun" came from Acadian because the indigenous people in Louisiana couldn't pronounce it correctly. Not sure if that's true or not, just something I heard somewhere.

I just learned they have the Internet in some mythical place called Acadia. Wait - I'm more inclined to believe the guy that says he's a Fraggle, but maybe I'm biased.

Me - I'm from a tribe of drunken Irishmen that settled in Corktown, aka Shitsville Detroit. We're almost extinct because we do shit like fist fight people that have guns and go bareback on meth-riddled hookers.

I'm tall dark and handsome, i like long walks on the beach, also when i'm alone i like to play wit........ oops wrong thread!!

I'm Canadian....polish, and sadly don't know much about my birth country except the fact that my grandparents hate ze germans and the ruskies.

I am an American by birth....Italian and Lithuanian with a dash of Russian, French, and Polish, by blood. 1/2 my grandpa's siblings were born in Italy.

Family, friends, and other people in my life have made me who I am. Some people who I am around....I want to be like them and strive to raise up to their level. With others.....I see the results of who they are/what they do and I strive to do things different.

The people who motivate me and encourage me, I keep close.

I don't know what's more amazing, the fact that there is another person here that is of Lithuanian lineage, or that that person is also from AZ.

Half Lithuanian, quarter Scottish, quarter hodgepodge of other stuff like English, German, etc.

I'm Portuguese.
We eat alot of codfish, use alot of olive oil and drink alot of red wine (we have some of the best wines).
We used to have a big empire but, because of a commie revolution, we now only have our european square.

I'm an American Military brat who was born in Okinawa, Japan and graduated high school in Guam. I traveled the world as a child living with my family who was stationed in tons of interesting places. As such I am a natural talker and make friends easily in any situation. However, unlike many non-military children I do not have any long-term childhood friends. I never got too attached as I knew we would be leaving in another year or two.

I started in affiliate marketing at 18, in adult. I'm almost 32 now, still chugging along in this biz. it's had its advantages and disadvantages, but I love not having to commute to work every day like many of my friends;-)

I'm a girl (no really I am I have the xrays to prove it) and I was made with sugar and spice and everything Fuck this, I was made with jalapenos and Cajun spice and anything else that can be considered saucy, hot and spicy.

I was born in IL....don't tell me you were too!
