I thought the movie needed its own topic. If anyone has not heard of it there is a independent movie called Food Inc that has finally started being shown in more places across the country. I saw it last night and dragged some friends out to see it and frankly it was pretty shocking and I feel that everyone should see it either in theaters or find it online(though I haven't been able to).

Fun fact from the movie..

Monsanto who makes Round Up weed killer and made Agent Orange for the government holds the patent on a genetically modified soy bean and now controls 90% of all soy beans grown in the US. Through scare tactics and lawsuits they have put farmers out of business that don't use their seed. If just 1 of their seeds ends up on your land and grows they can sue you for infringement on their patent.

and before the argument starts this movie has nothing to do with going vegan, not eating meat, or any other hippy bullshit. Its more about the business behind food and the corporations that control everything we eat.
 


I highly recommend everyone looks for a local 'CSA <community supported agriculture> Basket' - we get a huge basket every 2 weeks, and nearly all of our produce useis from this.

The quality/taste is amazing, and it's all local and organic. For meats/fish I shop at farmers markets or trades joes <seldom>, Henry's (SoCal), or Whole Foods. I don't eat fish that's not wild caught.
 
Corporations control everything, not just food.

This movie, Fast Food Nation and Earthlings should be mandatory viewing & reading in all high schools.
 
I saw it in June when it opened here in NYC. I've been a Michael Pollan fan for years since he was writing opeds and articles about the food industry for the NY Times.

I've never fed my family meat from the supermarket, unless it's Whole Foods and I know exactly from where it came and what the animal was fed. Most dairy, eggs and vegetables come from the green markets. We eat mostly what is available locally and in season.

It's hard to believe that the facts laid bare in this film are surprising to anyone.

The factory food companies have essentially taken animals that can transform nothing more than grass and sunshine into high-quality protein, and turned them into miserable, dirty, sick and overly-medicated shadows of their former selves that require tremendous amounts of fossil fuel and pharmaceuticals to manage and maintain. The huge volumes of hormones and antibiotics that slosh into our water supply from the runoff from the feedlots isn't a very healthy situation either.

Sorry. I guess I'm just grateful to see this film gaining some mainstream traction.
 
I hope this get's HUGE attention, people do your part and spread this shit around, put a lil link on your facebook even, etc etc etc.

Hire assassins to kill these corporate assholes, you know, whatever.
 
I've known about this shit for quite some time. This is just another example of how capitalism can get out of control if it's not regulated properly. And what happens when we let corps buy out our politicians with lobbying.

Don't you mean this is the kind of shit that happens when the government regulates everything into a big mess? The movie makes it extremely clear that almost all of the problems in the food industry are a direct result of government interference. Leave it to liberals to use that as an excuse to clamor for more regulation!

No that's not what I mean at all. You think all the nasty shit that goes on with processed foods and meat factories would go away if we stopped subsidizing corn? Don't think so.

Monsanto's horseshit would be stopped if we stopped subsidizing corn? Don't think so.

I haven't watched this movie yet. But it's prob a lot like "King Corn", and "The World According to Monsanto".

I seriously recommend watching the Monsanto movie to all of you. You can watch it free on Google Video.

The only way to stop this shit is with laws. Since media is bought and paid for just like the gov the only thing we can do is make laws (regulations) to stop the practice of buying our media and gov. If Americans never get truthful info from their news.. how can we self-regulate our Market? We cant.

It is not capitalism. It is fascism. Like Benito Mussolini fascism.

Small organic farmers suing Monsanto for property rights violations is capitalism.

This wouldn't even be an issue if the government did not issue patents. There are no patents online and small operators like us thrive. Patents are just a subsidy to big business. A form of monopoly, an anti-compete clause.

Democracy is predicated on lobbying. You can't have democracy without lobbying, if you remove lobbying, you create a totalitarian (centralized, bureaucratic) state with elections just for show.

I'm referring to the type of lobbying where offers and incentives are made to the politicians. I'm not talking about simple persuasive speaking.

Also something needs to be done about politicians owning stock whose value is effected by decisions they make in office.
