The City Of Seven Hills Will Be Destroyed

are we really supposed to take all fucking vague assed prophecies seriously now?

It's a manuscript written 400 years ago, listing 112 popes, culminating in the last one named Peter the Roman. Seems pretty specific to me.

And your life philosophy has you stating that this was a grand conspiracy by the church to fabricate this document 400 years ago for the sole purpose of "religion benefiting from it".

And not only that, you are stating that they took an enormous gamble that not only would the church still exist 400 years from then, but that it would also come to an end at precisely the time that the list ended.

I'm sorry, that requires too much faith for me.

The prophecy was first published in 1595 by Arnold de Wyon, a Benedictine historian, as part of his book Lignum Vitæ.

Are you actually stating that the Catholic church fabricated this manuscript 400 years ago for the sole purpose of fulfilling it now?

If so, that's damn impressive of them.

Let's turn that around:

Are you saying this guy Arnold... saw 400+ years into the future with the help of Christ to warn us about our impending doom? If so, with what purpose? So we could avoid naming a pope Peter? But what IF there are 100s of other predictions with equally cookie shit. Should we avoid anything that was ever writing in the past about a future prediction?

And... what if instead of attributing the prophecy to super natural powers... we boiled it down to a coincidence? You know, the whole, "Post hoc ergo propter hoc" logically fallacy thingy...

Like I said, this is what atheism does to people. It forces them to override their logic.

So the guy got all 112 names right?

I don't know if it was a conspiracy from the start or not. It's probably more like modern Catholics found a popular prophecy that they could actually easily fulfill largely themselves to their BENEFIT.. so they'll prob do it.

A popular prophecy that states that their church will end with this last pope, which they will easily fulfill, "largely to their benefit".

So they're gonna eliminate their own church, in order to fulfill this prophecy. How does that benefit them again?

Like I said, your atheism is getting in the way of your logic.

I haven't said anything one way or the other. Arnold was the historian, by the way, not the author.

This thread was about an ancient manuscript and an interesting coincidence.

It has become a thread about how atheists must do mental gyrations in order to make inconvenient facts conform to their worldview, unfortunately.

Ok, then what about the hundreds of prophecies that constantly go unfulfilled year after year? Since I can remember, when I was about 4, we've been in the "end times", and destruction is near. I can't remember the number of times the world was supposed to end, or massive war was supposed to start, or natural disasters were supposed to kill 50% of us and change the positioning of the continents, etc.

But because some guy who's potentially in line to become the Pope happens to be named Peter, you guys are going to jump all over this as if its a true prophecy and fact??? I honestly don't even have the words to describe how ridiculously retarded that is... Come on, it's 2013, not 300AD.

How are we ever supposed to advance as a species if you guys continue believing in this stupid shit?

But Doood.. it's like your logic is obscured by your Satanic Atheism.

But seriously all this really just once again shows how absolutely desperate people are to believe they are living in the end of days. Why? Probably cause it's sort of depressing thinking about the fact that after you're dead humanity will continue to prosper and enjoy life for thousands of years without you. You will be forgotten. But if you're around during the end-times well then that makes you special.. it also would revive people's faith in god if they saw shit go down like in Revelation. So, people work really damn hard to keep thinking the rapture is just around the corner. And the rest of us have to deal with the political and social consequences of that.

I'm so fucking glad that atheism is on the rise, but still disappointed I live in a time when theism is so prevalent. The fact we have a few here, on a forum in which technology and science go hand in hand, are espousing these silly religious beliefs reminds me we still have a lot of progress to make.

Fantastic.

FIRST!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Fuck me, ayzo's fast.

Well, at least I get to post in a Hellblazer thread on the same day I posted on a Dresden Drama thread. What are the odds?

You just need to post in a LukeP end of the world thread and... oh wait.

A King will rise in the East one day...

You heard it here first.

One day, a Man named John, or something with J, or whose family has a name John or a name begging with the letter J will be in charge of agriculture in the government of this time.

While he is, there will be a period of many days without rain. This will cause crops to fail. John will have failed to see this coming.

When this happens, there will be civil unrest, until some powerful leader gets control of things.

Then there will be some good years and this powerful leader and his people will enjoy prosperity.

There, now some retard in the future will think I'm a genius. Much easier than I though. Anybody want to have their future read?

you think they would find someone who didnt look like a molester, oh wait, thats all of them.
