Hi all! I have couple of noob questions.
Where i'am coming from in short (so you better understand my noob lvl):

-Was reading about IM for 3 month and after that got information overload and finally started to do something

- Created youtube video with Clickbank product

- Wrote a 500 word article and spun it for 100 different copies

- Slowly creating backlinks (article sites + forum profiles mostly, blog comments get deleted quickly) - at this point ~ 10! do follow backlinks with PR n/a-0 :evil_laughter:

- created squidoo lens (will do wordpress.com this week)

- signed up for socialadr and submitted links for my video and squidoo lens

Situation:

I am trying to rank my youtube video for first page of google. For 4 kw(my primary kw has 0.24-low competition, 2400 exact local searches in google kw tool). There is only one same video for them:

ahrefs.com (free account) shows 9 backlinks
traffic travis (free version) counts 2089 backlinks but shows only 5 actual links.

all backlinks that I found with these tools are the same except Traffic travis found an Ezine article. Some of them are non existent anymore.

Search link:competitorlink in Google shows only 4 links and they are from youtube {response videos}.

So the questions are

1) What number should I trust analyzing competiton? 9 from ahrefs.com, 5 from TT or 2089 from TT?

2) When creating back links should I include link to squidoo lens together (in one text/forum account) or it is better to separate them (creating different accounts)?

3) What will you recommend to do to save time to get better results from link building?
Stop building forum profiles? (although i found a list of 2000 forums so this will go quicker now)
Start doing ---- ?

P.S. I might buy $5 backlink campaign from fiverr but that's all I want to spend right now on my first try at IM.

Thanks in advance for all replies!

Is this real life?
As real as it gets =_=

I figuered that it is pointless at my stage and level of knowledge go and buy scrapebox, bookmarkdemon etc or spend hundreds on backlinks BEFORE I understand how all this ordeal with backlinks works through manual labor =)

And yes i saw guerillas webinar part1 but so far i have little success with finding descent blogs or forums but i am working on it. Plus i found website with lots of suggestions on footprints to search for blogs and forums.

The only "manual backlinks" that are worth anything are the ones from high-ranking, established sites that exercise editorial control. For example some very high profile tech sites got their initial search engine and referral traffic jumpstart from slashdot. In your case try to find active high PR blogs, news sites or similar with low % of search traffic and see if any of them are stupid enough to let you write in exchange for a link to your stupid squidoo lens about a clickbank product nobody buys. What's it about, holistic massage techniques for pregnant cats?

Thanx JCash, that's what I thought I needed to do. But I still will do some forum profiles and articles while searching for those kind of blogs you are talking about. And clickbank product is how to make crazy moneyz on interwebz :banana_sml:

The point was more instead of going 100% bum, get shared hosting like HG's "baby," buy a domain or two, and get your publishing proper, then you can explore a variety of niches (MMO on clickbank isn't a beginners' game) have the option of pointing the 2.0's and forum links at your property or using buffers like squidoo (shitty choice btw with their recent changes) and have the credibility of being a proper blogger if you approach others with a blogging for backlinks pitch.

My wordpress site for amazon is almost done. But before I go live with it I want to rank youtube video on page 1 (which I was told is much easier to rank). At this point I don't care about making money - i want to understand the basics ...

And the product I selected from clickbank is health related with somewhat descent gravity and not extremely hard competition (for a video)... was just burning you back for pregnant cat massage.

Oh, and squidoo lens is pointing to my youtube video, it's not a separate project. What i want to do is to create couple of 2.0 and backlink them with lots of articles and forum profiles and may be forum posts. Collect the "link juice" as it was called here and point them to my video.

So what do you think about this backlink situation? I see it in every niche that i randomly select... May be there is a better tool to see adequate results for competitors backlinks?

I don't pay any attention to competition, I make blogs, sites and tools about stuff I'm interested in or stuff I know about, offer content or other considerations for backlinks to whatever the biggest non-direct-competitor sites by PR and alexa TR, dropcatch sites with lots of backlinks and build minifeeders on them, and occasionally waste $20 on fiverr SEO crap to wake my catches up again, because to me organic traffic is just a traffic source, organic search traffic is just a nice side effect of an effective organic traffic strategy, 30% of the searches on Google don't have an associated CPC in Adwords, and 65% of Google searches don't result in a top-10 keyword click. If you're working longtails correctly, you don't know what they are until you look at your search analytics and say "that's interesting, maybe I'll write more about that."

this is some of the best SEO advice to come out of this forum in a while. Analytics is arguably the most important tool in an SEO's toolbox

Question is still open about link discrepancy =). Would really appreciate if someone experienced answered =)

Thanx for the hint. Any thoughts on backlink numbers difference? Simply if my competitor has 2000 back links i will not even try to beat him . It is a bit much for the first project. On the other hand ahrefs still showing 9 and no links build in 3 month.... Dunno wat to do ...

Damnit Momchil.. You got to it before me. :)

One of the moest important lessons in internetmarketing.. and when comes to everything else too.. is "TRUST NO ONE" :)
