Hurricane Irene

I live on the very south shore of Long Island. I don't give a fuck. I haven't done anything to prepare, I have no flashlights and no extra food or water. Just beer.

This... I'm in Philly. Just waiting for a 30 minute long t storm and calling it a day

Why not just do a little preparation? I don't understand the "tough guy" attitude. Yeah it may not be/become a big deal, but if you are wrong the little bit of preparation can go a long way.

I'll choose an hour or two of preparation over being "cool" I guess.

Agreed, right now theres is not much chance your home is going to be damaged but I guarantee your power is off for a couple days.

Im not trying to be cool .... I don't have to lol.

I think it's an over hyped event and everyone is over reacting.

Do I think the coast lime should definitely be evacuated, and it's possible shit will definitely get fucked up there? Yes

But do I think this insane carnage is going to tear shit up on a Philly suburb - no.

Could I be wrong? Yes, but in that case I'll go chill in the basement.

I was just outside DC for the "quake" ... I thought it was just strong wind shaking the building ... But then the media makes it sound like it was devastating. Same thing for Irene IMO

I agree with this, I'm expecting the power to go... I'm prepared for that.

But I'm not boarding up windows and shit

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the shark thread or the Hurricane thread. Maybe I'll do both.

That sounds eerily familiar to what tens of thousands of people said before Katrina hit.

I live in a building at the very bottom of the financial district next to the water in nyc. I'm not in town right now but someone in the building set up a live stream out their window. We are right where the two rivers meet at the bottom and go out to the ocean. prime flooding zone.

Hurricane Irene - NYC - 2011 on USTREAM: Live Feed from evacuated Zone A in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Camera is facing directly into New York Harbor....

already got calls from the power company saying they are about to shut off all power to the area and police are forcibly evacuating anyone they find out on the streets after this evening.

doesn't look too bad to me, would be pretty cool to watch though as I am way above what this cam is looking at so I see all the way out.

Irene=long rain storm.

I could have slept outside in a tent last nite lol
It's good man that it's not strong...

For me it's two DAYS OFF cause of strong rain. So that battery park area has some small flooding , but it's about it. I leave in upper area of Manhattan - regular life - all shops are opened, a lot of people on the streets.... just some rain.
p.s. nice time to do some coding)
