Observation After Returning to WF

Its not so much this forum. This industry is correcting itself. Lots of people being phased out. Shit became too saturated and died like usual. The kids who just threw up a copy and paste lander and made x,xxx are disappearing.

It will continue to correct itself. There's many people "waiting" so the next big thing will die relatively fast until it thins out enough to work. -2cents- :)

Quality rises and falls at any forum, although the long-term trend tends to be downward.

WickedFire is old enough now that it has a colossal amount of useful information for marketers, not just ClickBank type of marketers but offline advertisers/sellers, phone sales, mailing, etc. -- and that's in the free section. No telling what's in the paid section.

Unfortunately Wicked suffers from the same problem any quality forum with some age and size to it has: the people who would most benefit from using the forum, refuse to really use the forum and show up in droves either asking the same stupid, repetitive, and often pointless questions that get asked on a daily basis, or even worse, copy and pasting the same sales thread they use at DP and everywhere else (btw BST SEO/content guys: if you'd quit selling here and read the forum, you wouldn't need to sell here. Just sayin')

Over time, any good forum will lose valuable contributors, often because of the vicious cycle outlined above -- they make some good friends and business contacts in the early days, eventually the forum starts to get overrun, and since they're already connected with those ten or twelve people via other means, there's no point to come back for any reason but the tits.

Personally, I think the future of WF is that it will eventually go the way of DP and become one big bazaar which tangentially has some totally fucking nonsensical forum activity going on in the background, or it will become an epic place for boobs, lolgifs and arguing, which tangentially has a semi-active BST section. This is no big thing really -- aside from forums which are either laser-targeted to a given niche like Howard, or free-for-all shitfests like 4chan, this is totally normal evolution for a forum.

true. also, its always good to have some ongoing "consulting" going on. that way, when shit changes you can bill people to explain why while you rebuild.

I started reading everything I could get my hands on about making money online in late 2006. By early 2007 I was testing lots of affiliate campaigns and will be the first to credit Wickedfire for a lot of my affiliate success over the years.

Some of the smartest affiliates in the world were once active members here.

I've been an advertiser for the last 2 years and have not visited WF much but over the last week have been motivated to return and read for some reason... And how things have changed.

2 - 4 years ago there was a wealth of knowledge here, mostly having to do with the affiliate side.

Tons of affiliate case studies; Jon hosting contests having to do with which member can do the most monthly volume (that shit was motivating! Back then seeing affiliates doing 6 figs / month was eye opening, and keep in mind it was pre-rebills, pre-mobile); Krongel dropping tons of knowledge; Jon motivating us; Diorex, Smax, Gopher, Eli and tons of others offering genuinely helpful shit that I'm sure grew many members' businesses into the millions+ range.

Today I come back and out of the first 40 posts I see, 29 of them are offering SEO services. That's 73%! (Clearly 40 posts is not statistically significant but its indicative of what I've observed from being back over the past week.) None are about affiliate marketing. A few stupid noob questions. Idiots like AdAnglerMichael and a couple seemingly helpful case studies for SEO's.

Observation is that this place has gone from one of the best resources for affiliate marketing to a breeding ground for $3 Indian seo services, noob questions and SEO case studies.

I'm not complaining... just reporting an observation of someone who's been here from almost the start, and I rhetorically ask if this is a reflection of where the online industry is today or just a normal shift in the lifecycle of any site.

R U Mad?

lol, but seriously, things have changed dude... things aren't worse than before, the internet has just evolved.

Yes, there are a lot of advertisers selling their services on here, some of which are just pure trash, but others are very legitimate. They are here because there is an increased demand for the types of services that they offer.... but I will agree with you that it may be a bit excessive.

And I do see where you are coming from, and personally, this is just my perspective, I would love it if WF became a paid forum, I would pay just as much as I do for any monthly service I pay for now... and I think it would drop the amount of leeches/scammers etc. almost entirely, thus providing an environment more conducive for intelligent marketers to bounce ideas off of each other and share knowledge. On top of that, more experienced guys wouldn't be as wary to share information that is truly helpful.

But even with that said, I love Wickedfire the way it is... I've received plenty of knowledge from here that has directly attributed to $ in my bank account. That's nuff said for me.

i agree that the amount of seo threads here are a joke. link vines link wheels, plr content, etc etc etc ETC. Fuck all this shit it's so fucking lame.

this

The bst either needs more mods or needs a to have that vbulletin plugin that requires you to be a member for X amount weeks/months before starting threads enabled.

HI, I'M GEORGE ZIMMER, FOUNDER AND CEO OF THE MEN'S WEARHOUSE. IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR DICK-DRAGGING GOOK CARCASS AWAY FROM MY TURF, I'M GOING TO SHOVE MY SPERM WHALE SO FAR UP YOUR DRAINAGE PIPE THAT YOU'LL BE TASTING THE UNDERWEAR THAT I WEAR UNDER MY DAPPER SUIT FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS. I GUARANTEE IT.

This

I've received plenty of knowledge from here that has directly attributed to $ in my bank account.

And this.

I am ranking higher for my main keyword than I have in almost a decade thanks to 2 providers here. There are inexpensive and professional. (and the knowledge i've gained)

at some point, you realize talking to others in the open is not always the best business practice
I entirely agree with eliquid. Most free stuff is taken advantage of (Resold as WSO's) and the fact is that only a few members give while most just take and never share anything of actual value.
Best example of this is Jbern's seo case study once it was out it seemed like everyone had copied his site and model.

Most Forums have this issue of being super great and slowly going down then it will go back up again.

HI, I'M GEORGE ZIMMER

For some reason every time I see this now I can't get past ZIMMER without starting to LOL....

I also joined in 07, have seen the 'change/evolution/growth/whateva' and agree it comes with the territory. Only so much new technology/techniques/tricks/info comes out to add to this place which I agree is pretty full. While building the portfolio of knowledge, it buzzes in the right places, but as someone else said once you fill it up it's rather hard to keep focus on just knowledge base/gold info everywhere.

That and I agree with those who simply don't share too much because no good deed goes unpunished here if you go too far teaching your ways. Once you're big enough where duplicating or outdoing you becomes a mountain, you start spilling some goods and inspiring others, until then most know better than to give handouts and shoot themselves in the foot at the same time.

The STS section is always most populated in currently viewing, that's at most forums but it shows you that most people here are a) been there done that - not helping noobs today - b) noobs getting frustrated not realizing there's gold right under their nose they just don't know where to look - or how to get along in a place like this (let's walk into the toughest bar in town and ask the hottest girl to dance right in front of her man, yeah good noob move). c) I'm here for the gangbang.

I think it's a bit rough around the edges but that same roughness is what kinda makes this place what it is including the self-filtered seo'ers (at least you can see/tell most are lol from a mile away). Despite the saturation of crappy providers, I still think this forum accounts for a huge chunk of the webs biggest earners (and tons of up and comers, and many more durrrrrs) and it's well worth taking the good with the bad here.

LOL!

That was just me and Grindstone making fun of Russ86 for double-posting 8 minutes apart...
