OK. Let's start with the contradictions. Which one is first?
Let's see if you have one that is worth its salt. And, I am certain there are some, but I do not know of one. Enlighten me. I do not want stupid cultural laws from 4000 years ago. I want relevant contradictions. And believe me, I am brutally honest with myself. If I see something that does not make sense - I will admit it. So convert me.

By that logic, we should give a ton of weight and authority to the Lord of Rings series and Harry Potter because they've been republished so many times. We can start speaking elvish and shit in courts.

That was an attempt to give REIMktg the tools to draw his own conclusions. Accepting religion is a passive process (spoon-feeding) but questioning it must be active IMO.
In my eyes the bible is historically interesting but downright harmful if used for moral advice.
Although well-published, I’m not sure if its ideas are that popular. If you quote the bible in a social situation most people will look at you like you are a nutty Jesus freak.

Seriously, if you're curious about the problems with your religion, (which every last person who believes in invisible, omnipotent beings should damn well be) Just read the texts of it. Pick up your bible, torah, whatever you got, and understand each sentence in it.
You're going to find LOADS of inconsistencies, both metaphorical and literal.
Sidenote: It was the metaphorical ones that did me in... Like Jesus' blood being wine that we're all supposed to drink and shit like that. What were we, Vampires? What fucking good would it do even if we were drinking his real blood? Why was this a good thing? We'd probably have caught something; that's just can't be hygienic. (/rant)

The Atheist argument is ridiculous. There are plenty of Christians that believe in an old Earth. I do not even know the point the Atheist is making.

Genesis 2 does not say "every tree" nor does it negate the existence of prior trees.
If someone could pick a serious difficulty and contradiction then I can attempt, yes I am willing as always to admit when wrong, but please pick 1 real thing for me to address. I do not have time, nor does anyone else I am certain to answer all 50 of the above supposed contradictions.
The blood is symbolic. The Catholics may believe something different but from a protestant perspective the wine is symbolic of Christ's sacrifice nothing more.
I have read a lot of the Bible, and yes, parts are not easily understood until you research and look into them.

The problem you are up against here is that only a newbie atheist would be reading a bible, or have done so recently enough to examine it for such a conversation. -Once we spend time as an atheist and perhaps a year or more passes, that book becomes a joke that we easily forget specifics about.

Didn't I just get finished explaining in depth that it was the METAPHOR, not the literal action of the blood-as-wine that I had a problem with?

I do not care how many christians think the wine, once blessed, is actually jesus' blood... I care that the message they are sending along by having christians drink blood is stupid and bordering on harmful to the mental health of those who do it.
Honestly, tell me... Why is it a good thing to (even just symbolically) drink christ's blood and eat his flesh? Is christianity promoting zombieism or vampirism? Or is the thought of consuming a long-dead guy's vital essence, despite millions of prior christians not gaining immortality for doing so, still tempting as a way to gain immortality?
Whatever it is, it's just a bad message to send. And the church is FULL of them, from baptisms (Let's mock-drown our child to show him he's special!!!!) to wearing crosses (you know, the roman equivalent of an electric chair... In 2k years are they going to be wearing little electric chair pendants around their necks??) and so on... I mean WTF???
Talk about an inefficient way to teach children how to have a good life...

If the Bible is full of contradictions, I wanted to know.
I always am looking for a Biblical contradiction that cannot be reasonably answered. I want to know the truth. But as always, Atheists fail me.
Any Protestant Christian understands the underlying meaning of these activities. Even Baptism is an action of choice, not to be made by a child, but by an adult that chooses Christianity. Was Christ baptist as a child or adult?
The bread and wine. Symbolism once again of the sacrifice. I never knew a child in the Church that was "creeped out" or did not understand the communion. Maybe you were scarred by some crazy church that did not sufficiently explain things to you.
The cross is a reminder of the sacrifice of Christ. It was more than the equivalent of the electric chair. The electric chair was designed to be humane. The cross was designed to inflict the maximum suffering.
I never thought for a moment that you'd fail to know WHAT they symbolize... sure there are explanations, just no good Messages here.
Step back for a moment from all of the explanations and try to see Christianity from an outsider's perspective... What does the Sum of all these weird-ass symbols and traditions look like?
Too me it now appears as a cult of mentally deranged vampire wannabes. -At least the Catholics appear that way, minus their pedophilistic side... The rest of the christian denominations are varying levels of lesser vampire cults.

But basically my point is that something that tries to be what a religion is intended for should possess a message that is appealing to outsiders. Christianity must have done so at one time, like in the Dark ages, but today it's message is pretty appalling.
