I like people alot more ever since I moved out of the U.S., but I find that when I'm in the States to visit I don't speak to strangers and generally expect the worse of them and don't like dealing with anyone I don't know. I like to be pleasant and friendly with people but when it is shunned or even derided I get pissed, so now I don't try.

If I meet someone who proves to be genuinely pleasant I am shocked and am quite drawn to them but this is a cold world we live in these days and that is a rare find.

That's pretty much how I feel.

When I was younger, I was a happy person and trusted people before I knew them. But life has taught me that it's hard to be that type of person these days because people don't believe you're for real or they wanna take advantage of what looks like naivete. Now I'm much cooler towards strangers or people I just met because I expect them to either be a typical douchebag or have ulterior motives.

Maybe a lot of that has to do with living in L.A....or maybe it's the U.S. in general. I think what I need to do is go the Timothy Ferriss route and get the hell outta here to experience other cultures. Might do me a whole lot of good.

I like people. But I set my expectations for people very low. I know that most people don't give a shit about anyone else unless it is good for themselves. So I don't expect anyone to be "nice" or go out of their way to watch out for me. I watch out for myself. The value I get from other people is just hanging out and keeping myself entertained. I feel pretty happy and complete on my own, but being by yourself all the time is just boring.

I'm the same way. Feel very social and accepting of everyone when I'm in Europe, but wouldn't give most Americans the time of day. Americans sicken me in general, which is why I'm doing all I can to gtfo asap.

If by people you mean the general population/strangers, I don't give a shit one way or the other about them. Why should anyone?

There should be a "Don't Care" poll option.

As for the people I value, such as my friends and some family, yes I do like them overall.

I'm curious as to what others are like on here since we're in a profession that is very isolated for most.

I agree with you that spending too much time in front of a computer can be an isolating situation. It can be very alienating and encourage anxiety disorders. Many of my webmaster friends report a "disconnected" feel when in social settings after they spend too much time working on the computer.

To avoid this issue, I work from our company's office. Having people around helps me center my focus. This works only for standard text/informative text though. For creative work (kick ass landing page text takes a lot of creative juices), I bring my laptop to a cafe where there's a lot of people buzzing and milling about and it helps me focus on writing killer ad copy.
