You assholes are amazing!

^You're totally not giving Google it's due.

Nothing is changing this world like Google did/is/will keep doing.

Not even Ben Franklin, or his whole posse in 1776.

Love them or hate them, Google has it's hands in EVERYTHING now. They've invested more in Green Energy than all but 2 countries of the world have. (!)

Of course you know about their push towards broadband and Open-source operating systems, and as a content publisher I have to say that nothing has changed society and empowered the smart proletariat as much as Adsense did... And that's a legacy that is growing by leaps and bounds.

Not enough for you? If you read through the google blog, you'll find hundreds of other examples where they have donated time, money, server space, money, and talent towards solving problems around the world.

As far as a single man goes, I know of no better Renaissance man than Franklin was; but now that Corporations are legal entities, the history books will show that Google Inc. has done far more to help the world than any other entity.

(And for this Bill Gates must be really pissed off!)

Careful stmadeveloper, You know Googlebot is here right now indexing your every character, right? ;)

I've got away with this:

I'll take my chances :)

Oh, it's not today you should be worried about, rather 10-20 years in the future when our Overload looks back at everything online, scanning all online history to see who has set themselves up as it's enemy and makes a list out of potential enemies to be terminated. XD

I can only count on both my hands the number of people I have met like me that can:

1. Code scripting langs like PHP or Perl/Ruby/Python
2. Write Sales Copy and split test
3. Write HTML and CSS and JS
4. Photoshop or graphics
5. Make deals for insertion orders, etc
6. Handle cash flow
7. Diversify
8. research/spy

However, I know a lot of people doing affiliate marketing knowing exactly 0% about 7 out of the 8 above. So crazy.

Please, please, please.... Can I be one of the guys that knows all 8?

Obey yourself or be obedient.

"The man who can't obey his will towards a vision imagined in his best interest will never amount to more than the sum of trivial pursuits belonging to his unconscious mind." - I take full responsibility for writing this quote, trust me, I've spent the majority of my life doing the opposite.

Here's a little gif I made for myself to drive the point home. (Everyone should have a motivational pictures/quotes/recordings folder :))

/bragging, but I guess I fall in that category

in regards to your musical abilities i find that most if not all strongly analytical / logical computer minded people are able to pick up an instrument incredibly quickly. Something to do with that part of the brain being so strong. I just hope you don't strum a guitar / ukulele on the beach :)

Err... I disagree.

While I can do the math and logic, I don't have the ear for music at all.
I started guitar, and while I got the logic and the fingers wrapped up fine, the thing was completely out of tune and I didn't even notice.

I can draw, though.

^It's been well shown that the logical part of music, rythim and timing, are all processed by the same part of the brain that mathematics are. -Meanwhile the part of the brain that "Hears" pitches is totally separate, near where the rest of the auditory processing is done.

So people who have perfect pitch and can sing along with the best of them can be completely lost on how to write their first 2 notes.

Likewise, ppl who have their logic centers well developed could theoretically compose like mozart, but without the auditory development, they'd better let a machine to the pitch selection for them (like all disney singers do these days.)

It's kinda rare to have both well developed. I only met about 3 at my whole university in 2 years as a Music Major.

indeed, people would have a hard time believing i'm a web designer, programmer, marketer and business development manager built into one. most people are fucking lame and unskilled. and to the person bragging about their 270 bench, i bench 330 and deadlift 600. :)

Just a thought/question, but I always considered a true Renaissance Man someone who used a varied skill set to invent or use things in a new way to improve not only his circumstances but to also made an impact on others in the time period and beyond.

It's great that we have so many talented individuals on the boards, but branching out from that - what do all of those skill sets mean beyond your individual experiences?

Dear Rebecca,

In regards to your doubts about what constitutes "a true Renaissance Man," <INSERT OBLIGATORY ANTI-FEMINIST JOKE HERE>.

Sincerely,
Luke :D
